Meeting commenced at 9:00 A.M. in the office of the Personnel Director.
Minutes of the meeting of April 7, 1978 were accepted.
Pension Advisory Committee reviewed a request from Martha McClung of the Police Depart-
ment for retirement effective October 27, 1978. Ms. McClung was born September 13, 1920
and was employed by the City on October 27, 1958. Her last day of scheduled work is
July 3, 1978. Ray Kaminskas moved that Ms. McClung be approved for retirement under
the Employees' Pension Plan effective October 27, 1978. Motion seconded by Betty Ward
and passed unanimously.
Pension Advisory Committee discussed the complaint of Ed Miller. Betty Ward related
that she had met with Mr. E. J. Robinson'and provided him with appropriate documents
on Mr. Miller's rejection from the Pension Plan. Mr. Robinson,. Affirmative Action
Officer, will contact Mr. Miller and explain to him that he can be re-examined at his
own expense and be reconsidered for pension.
. Detective Kaminskas reported on meeting of the Pension Advisory Committee with City
Attorney Tom Bustin, relative to the Leave of Absence of Mr. Zimmerman. The substance
of the Attorney's opinion was that when an employee takes an approved Leave of Absence
exceeding fou~ (4) months, any time beyond four (4) months requires an adjustment of
such employee's pension date,;(provided the employee left his pension monies in the
fund). Personnel Director was asked to advise Mr. Zimmerman and the Chairman will
write to Finance regarding this procedure.
Personnel Director advised Pension Advisory Committee that Mr. Resnick was told he
would have to pay interest on the monies he is obligated to pay into the Pension
Plan as a 'result of the period when Finance failed to make his deductions;~fhe took
more than the current calendar year to repay the money. Betty Ward moved, and
Ray Kaminskas seconded, that Finance be advised Mr. Resnick should ~ot be charged
interest.
Personnel Director advised Pension Advisory Committee that no response has been received
to his memo of April 10, 1978 to the City Attorney regarding Chief Pitts' request to
be transferred to the Employees' Pension Plan.
Pension Advisory Committee asked the Director to establish better procedures for
processing retirements. Director's Secretary will attend future Pension Advisory
Committee meetings to take minutes and prepare system of follow-up on retirements.
Committee recommended that the Pension Trustees accept the following employees, who are
