Proceedings of the Pension Advisory Committee Meeting held July 7, 1976.
,/
Present: Betty Ward, Chairman, Advisory Committee
Ray Kaminskas, Member
Wesley Brettel, Member
Joyce Bayerle) City Nurse
Mike Laursen, Personnel Director
Meeting commenced at 9:00 A.M. in the office of the Personnel Director.
The Pension Advisory Committee reviewed the physical examination forms for those
employees listed below in order to determine their recommendations to the Pension
Trustees. After review of the forms, it was their recommendation that the, following
employees be accepted into the Pension Plan:
Donald Neimela, W.P.C. Attendant, Utilities
Zerry Littles, Maintenance Worker I, Public Service
Betty Ward moved that the request of Mary Drew Kane, Secretary III) Public Se~ice
DepartmenG for retirement from the City of Clearwater effective June 24, 1977
at 8:30 A.M. be approved and recommended to the Trustees. Seconded by Wesley Brettel
and passed unanimously.
Ray Kaminskas moved that the request of Joseph Allen, Electrical Inspector, Building
Department, for retirement under Section 5 of the Employee's Pension Plan (disability
retirement, non job-connected) be approved effective August 5, 1976. Mr. Allen had
submitted letters from John A. Lauer, M.D. and Donald R. Eubanks, M.D. supporting
his request. Seconded by Wesley Brettel and motion passed unanimously.
The Pension Advisory Committee considered the physical examination form for
Arthur Thomas, Mechanic II~' Central Services Department which contained a recommend-
ation for acceptance into the pension by Dr. Hagan. Discussion brought out the fact
that Mr. Thomas initially was rejected from the pension plan four years previous
to this time because of asthma. He was apparently instructed by the Garage SuperinM
tendent to have another physical earlier this year and did so, resulting in the
current rec~mmendation. Mrs. BayerAe indicated that Mr. Thomas does not care whether
or not he goes under pension. It was questioned whether Mr. Thomas should have to
'pay back the time missed since he was initially rejected four years ago or whether he
would 'be entered into the platt effective this year. Wes,ley Brettel moved that
Mr. Thomas be given the option of determining whether to be accepted into the Pension
Program effective November 9, 1972 or as of the date of his current approval by the
City Physic~an. Director is to write Mr. Thomas and ask him to indicate his desires
in this regard.
The question was raised by Wesley Brettel as to what effect a leave of absence has
on pension for Mr. Wayne Vandenberg who took a six or eight months leave. Director
will check into the actual leave time and advise Mr. Brettel of the dates.
Ray Kaminskaa called Mr. Gerald Weimer regarding the printing of copies of the
