In November, 1974 I received a form from the City Finance Department stating that if I wished credit for my first six months employment towards retirement I would owe $155.81. My question is, does all this time I have served as a Police Cadet count towards my 20-year retirement from the Police Department? If it does not count, what benefits would I derive by paying this money back into the pension fund? I am scheduled to attend the next Police Academy at which time I will be promoted to Police Officer. will the date I become a Police Officer be the date used to compute my ,retirement date in the future? If the time served as a , ' Cadet does no t count, shouldn't those monies I have, paid in be refunded to me? Would it not be a good idea to deduct social security from Police Cadets until such time as they are promoted to Police Officer? I would appreciate the Pension Advisory Board reviewing my case and letting me know of their decision as soon as possible so that I might complete the form and return it to the Finance Office.
