Chairman, Advisory Committee
Member, Advisory Committee
City Nurse
Personnel Director
The Pension Advisory Board met in special session at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 15, 1974
in the office of the Personnel Director. Purpose of the special meeting was to discuss
the request of Russell Riendeau for a disability pension.
The Pension Advisory Board members reviewed copies of accident reports supplied by
the Police Department and discussed the letters on hand from Dr. Cordrey and
Dr. Bercaw.
An accident report from 1964 reported "wrenched bacWl occurred while Riendeau leaned
down to pick up a pencil. However, the same report indicated that this was a
re-occurrence ~f a non-job connected injury. It was also related by the City Nu~se
that Riendeau Buffered a broken bone in his hip in 1966 and cancer of the bladder
was apparently evident in 1966. From the material at hand, including the statements
from Dr. Cordrey and Dr. Bercaw, the members were unable to determine whether or not
the disabilit)' of Detective Riendeau was caused by an on the job injury.
Members asked the City Nurse to obtain further information regarding Detective
Riendeau including the following:
1. Medical records/ diagnosis from Shands Hospital in
Gainesville.
2. Discussing with Dr. Cordrey the findings related in
his statement.
3. Contact with the family and/or police department to
obtain further details regarding this case.
Subject to further information, this case will be reviewed at the next regular
meeting of the Pension Advisory Connnittee.
