Proceedings of Civil Service Board Meeting held December 22, 1975.

The Clearwater Civil Service Board met in Special Session on Monday morning.
December 22, 1975 at 9:30 A.M. in the Civil Service Office, City Hall Annex.
Members present: Tom Chenoweth, Paul ,Hatchett, Buddy Verdi, Alex D. Finch
Chairman Chenoweth called meeting to order.
Director advised members that in accordance with their request to him on
December 3, 1975 to attempt to arrange hearing dates for Mr. Battle and Mr. Stopher
to the satisfaction of all parties, he and Attorney NaIl had contacted the various
employee and City attorneys but had not been able to arrive at a schedule acceptable
to all.
The Board then heard from Mr. Battaglia, Attorney for Max Battle, who expressed
that they were fully prepared to go on the date first set by the Board (December B).
He 'then noted that the date was reset for January 5 and his calendar was adjusted;
if changed again) he would have to withdraw as Mr. Battle's Attorney.
Mr. Wagstaff, Attorney for the City, stated that the City had prepared its cases
to coincide with the original scheduling of hearings for the three dismissed
employees (Garretson, Stopher, Battle). He further advised that with the expected
length of Mr. Battle's case with 46 witnesses to be called, it might cause further
, postponement of Mr. Stopher's hearing.
The Board then discussed the time of hearings. Mr. Chenoweth asked if it was
possible to'have morning and afternoon sessions and reserve evening sessions for
prol>lems .
~. Verdi moved that Mr. Battle's hearing start at 9:00 A.M. on the 5th and try to
,start each succeeding day at 9:00 A.M. Seconded by Mr. Hatchett. Motion passed
