The Clearwater Civil Service Board met in regular session Monday evening,
August 14, 1961 at 7:30 P.M. in the Civil Service Office at City Hall.
Members prosent: R. M. Thompson, Sr., Acting Chairman, Donald O. McFarland,

Acting Chainnan R. M. Thompson, Sr. called the meeting to order.
Mr. McFarland moved that the minutes be approved as printed. Seconded by
Mr. Falzone and motion carried.
Director read letter signed liThe citizens of Clearwater, Florida/' asking
that the matter of Irona (Ronnie) Mitchell be placed on the Agenda. He told
Board members that the letter had arrived after the Agenda had been mailed
and since the letter was not signed, it was impossible to notify anyone that
it,would,not be on the Agenda.

Mr. McFarland moved that the Board ratify the Director's accion in approving the
request from James R. Lewis. former Laborer in the Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment. .to withdraw his resignation. Seconded by Mr. Starr and motion carried.
Mr. starr moved that the Board approve the City Manager's request to abolish
the ~gO positions of Janitor in the City Hall Department and to abolish the
City Hall Department. Seconded by Mr. Falzone and motion carried.
Nr. McFarland moved that the Board approve the City 'Manager' B request to
establish a new position of Hessenger. Range 18, in the General Division
. the 'Central Services Department replacing the old position of Janitor in
City Hall Department. Seconded by Mr. Fa.lzone. Motion carried.

the extension of emergency appointment of Barry W. Kiefer. OCT Student
working as a Draftsman I in the Engineering Department and extension of
emerglmcy appointments of Arthur Lee Butler, Hade W. Clarlc;, Robert Frederilcsen.
Joseph Hanousck~ Jr.. Robert Pyatt and Albert Williams, Patrolman applicants.
Police Department. Seconded by Mr. McFarland and motion carried.

Attorney Alex Finch spoke on behalf of Ronnie Mitchell, former Recreation
Supervisor 117 as did a number of women visitors. They protested the
acceptance of the resignation of Miss Mitchell and the fact that the examina-
tion to be given for Recreation Superintendent is limited to male applicants.

Mr. McFarland moved the meeting be adjourned.
Seconded by Mr. Falzone.
