October 4, 1965. , The Clearwater Civil Service Board met in regular sassion Monday evening, October 4, 1965 at 7:30 P.M. in the Civil Service Office. This meeting ragularly scheduled for October llth~ was held a week early due to the fact that the Director will be away the week of October 11. Members present: R. M. Thompson, Sr., John F. Starr and Donald o. McFarland. Observers: Mr. James R. Stewart, City Manager, James Shaffer, President, Employees Association, and l'trs. Celia O. Weare, League of Women Voters. Mr. Thompson, Acting Chairman, called meeting to order. Mr. McFarland moved that the minu~es of the meeting of August 3D, 1965, be accepted as written. Seconded by Mr. Starr and motion carried. Director reported on assembled examinations conducted. Director reported on certifications and appointments. Director reported on lay-offs, suspensions and dismissals. No Board action indicated. Mr. McFarland moved that the resignations of Robert Webb, Laborer. Water Division, Utilities Department; Susan Raab, Draftsman I, Engineering Department; Marvin Copeland, Distribution Serviceman I, Gas Division, Utilities Department, Clarence Baird, Laborer, Garage Division, Engineering Department; Daniel C. Hells, Fire- fighter 'and Richard G. Clarke, Firefighter, Fire Department; patrick Donegan, Laborer, Michael D. Winter, Laborer, Craig \v. Chalkley, Laborer, Terry L. Bower) Laborer, Woody Norman, Jr., Laborer, Wayne D. LeFleur, Laborer and Edward Wilkerson, Laborer, Parks & Recreation Department; Mary A. Head, Recreation Assistant, Harriet Rayner, Recreation Assistant and Shirley D. Bowes, Recreation Assistant, Parks & Recreation Department; Emory S. Hershey, former Clerk I in the City Office, requesting withdrawal of her resignation. Mr. McFarland moved Mrs. Hershey's request for withdrawal of her resignation be approved. by Mr. Starr. Motion carried. Clerk's that Seconded Director told the Board that another Communications Clerk I was needed from 4:00 P.M. to. 12:00 midnight in the Utilities Department and that the present Communications Clerk I (PPT) '~ould .be put into the full time position. Mr. Mcfarland moved that the Director's action in approving the request by the City Manager for the establishment of an additional position of CouQunications 'Clerk I, Range 23, I.n the Utilities Department be ratified. Civil Service Board mee,ting October '.. 1965 Page 2 " City Manager told Board that the City has grown so much there ara-about 400, service calls a day coming into the Utilities Department and it is no 'longer a'small town. Director passed out forms to Board Members showing how education and eXperience are equated for job applicants. This form will be put in their jackets to shaw how they were 'equated.
