08/09/1965ta`: Proceedings of the Civil Service Board meeting held Monday, August 9, 1965. The Clearwater Civil Service Board met in regular session Monday evening, August 9, 1965 at 7:30 L.M. in the Civil Service Office. Members present: R. M.' Thompson, Sr., Acting Chairman, Harold Wallace, John Starr and Donald 0. McFarland. x Observers! Mrs. E. C. Marquardt and Mrs. J. T. Hayward, League of Women Voters. Mr. McFarland moved that the minutes of the meeting of July 12, 1955 be approved as printed.. Seconded by Mr. Starr and motion carried. Director reported on assembled examinations conducted. Director reported on lay-offs and dismissals. No Board action indicated. Director reported on certifications and appointments. He called attention to _.::. the fact that a police applicant who had been certified and accepted was disqualified due to the fact that an old allergy had reoccurred causing blinding headaches.. Based on the Doctor's report, it was felt that in the best interest c%t • of the Ci.Cy, he should not be hired. .'^. Director also commented on the laborer who was hired in the garage. At the time the examination was to be given for Paint and Body Helper, there were no ???'' '• qualified applicants and the examination was not held. This man was hired as a laborer and is doing a splendid job. It is felt that he will be able to take the Paint and Body Helper examination in a very short time. z , .... ,,?,:?,, •. . Mr. Wallace moved that the resignations of Jessie Sanders, Refuse Collector, Utilities'Department, Edgar Lewis, Groundskeeper, Parks & Recreation Department, George 0stec-_n, Jr., Laborer, Public Works Department, Robert L. Perry, Refuse Collector, Utilities Department, Karl. Damm, Rodman, Engineering Department, John J. Tabor, Laborer, Water Division, Utilities Department and John S. Haschalk 'Jr., Laborer, pParks & Recreation Department be accepted. Seconded b ;r. Mr. Stair and motion carried. Mr. McFarland asked the status of the fire department situation. Director told the Board he had attended a special meeting of department heads and reported the discussion by Board Members. Director also told the department heads that the Board felt the Grievance Procedure should be followed. However, the Board also felt that if that did not produce a fair settlement, they, on request of ,`.•iY `' the City Commission. would look into it. Mr. McFarland moved the meeting be adjourned.
