Firefighters who have successfully passed fire departmont examination and/or test required for driver-operator. and have recommended by the Fire Chief and approved by the Appointing Authority, shall be paid $5. extra per pay period (2 weeks), while assigned to driver-operator duties." The motion was sec.onded by Mr. Thompson and carried. · Director discussed with Board members a revision in Pay Plan Rules to incorporate a formula providing additional compensation for employees temporarily nact1n~1 in a higher capacity. It was felt by the Board that the City could not make this retroactive. Mr. Thompson moved that au ~mployee in the classified service who is designated by his department head and the Appointing Authority to serve in an nactin~' capacity in a higher position in the classified service shall, for the period of such service in excess of thirty (30) calendar days, receive additional compensation determined by expressing his present base salary as a percentage of Step 1 of the salary range for the higher position and applying that percentage to the dollar difference between said present base salary and said Step 1. For the purposes, of this paragraph, Step 1 shall be deemed to be the lowest step in the higher salary range (as indicated by the current pay plan) which is higher than the employee's present base salary. Acting periods shall not be deemed cumulative nor shall such additional compensation be retroactive beyond the ,thirty-first (31) calendar day of such period of service, and that this shall take effect on March 21, 1964 with the first 30 days of any existing period to run from that time. Seconded by Mr. McFarland. Motion carried. . Director requested the Boardls consideration and clarification of ncloude~' seniority status of certain classified employees. Mr. McFarland moved that this matter of seniority which appears to be "cloudy" be tabled until the next regular meeting of the Board. Seconded by Mr. Starr and motion carried. i, Chairman Dalby told the Board that the Personnel Director would be with the City two years in March and that there wns money in the budget for a salary, increase. Mr. Thompson moved that the Board pay the Personnel Director at the rate of $300 bi-weekly, an increase of $15.00 per week, beginning with the next pay period on Ma'J:'ch 21. Weart nnd Mrs. Carol Chaplin, League of Women Voters. Meeting called to order by Chairman Dalby. Mr. Wallace moved that the Minutes of the last meeting be accepted as ~~itten. Seconded by Mr. Starr. Motion carried. :,. Reported on examinations conducted. Director reported that a Clerk 1. (Male) had been hired for the l.;rater Division and Mr. Walton, Clerk 1 from the Water Division had passed the Clerk II examination and transferred to the Incinerator Division. 'Reported on certifications and appointments. Mr. McFarland moved that the resignations of Elmer Bridges, Laborer, Parks and Recreation Department, Elizabeth A. tlendrix, Recreation Assistant, Parks and 'Recreation Department, Marston J. Taylor, Meter Reader I, Utilities Department, Joseph.F. Chiodo, Equipment Operator, Incinerator Division, Orner Vearl Borden, taborer, Parks and Recreation Department, Thomas Bedwell, Laborer, Parks and Recreation Department, Newton Wilson, Jr., Refuse Collector, Leonard Berg, School,Patrolman and Cleve McCa~ey, Refuse Collector, be accepted. Mr. Thompson seconded the moti~n which was duly carried. , , Mr. McFarland moved that the Board ratify the action of the Director in trans- ferring David Farnsworth from the Detective Division, Police Department to the Patrol Division (motorcycle duty) of the Police Department as previously acted upon by him. Mr. Thompson moved that the Board ratify ,the action of the Director in extending the emergency appointment of Leslie McGee until the vacancy be filled by eitamination'or for a.
