e-. Proceedings of the Civil Service Board meeting held Tuesday evening, June 21, 1960.
The Civil Service Board met in regular session for its second meeting of the
month, Tuesday, June 21, 1960, at 7:30 p.m., in the Civil Service office.

George Dalby and W. B. Mauney.
Guests: Police Chief Willis Booth; Jeanne Gates, Herbert McLendon, Sgta. Blaine
Lecouris and Kenneth Williamson, representing Employees' Association.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Coit.
Minutes of May 17 and June. 7 meetings read and approved.
Board members agreed that the City Manager should be contacted and an effort
made to arrange a joint meeting with the City Commission for discussion of the
vacation'and sick leave rule.
Police Department - Chief Booth was present as requested by the Board to give

his report on the record of former Patrolman James Varnum. Chief Booth did not
recommend granting Varnum's request for withdrawal of his resignation. Motion
made and passed unanimously by members that the request for withdrawal of resig-
nation, be denied.
Reported certification, one patrolman.
Letter read from Chief Booth requesting that the Board consider additional sick
leave for Patrolman Dean Sigler and Communications Clerk Howard Benson. Motion
made and passed by the Board approved of this time, subject to receipt of doctor's

'statements supporting requests and recommending to the City Commission approval of
the requests.
Regarding salaries paid and insurance coverage for Special Policemen, Chief Booth'
stated that insurance coverage is provided for special officers the same as for
regular members of the department. Their salaries, while employed, are paid by
the City, $1.50 per hour. Mr. Coit stated that since these two men have been
employed by the City for at least six months, they should be placed on a tempo-
racy basis in order to establisha legal status. Chief Booth was requested to
send through personnel action sheets accordingly.

Recreation Department - Reported requests from Monroe Jones, Recreation Depart-
ment employee and W. H. Henderson, Parks Department employee, for additional sick
leave. Board members approved granting these requests and Director instructed
to write the City Commission recommending consideration and approval.
Request read from Mr. Moore, Recreation Director, that the residence require-
ments be waived for applicants for the position of Recreation Supervisor 11,
(Men's and Boys' Activities) due to the inability to recruit qualified personnel
in Florida. Board approved granting this request until position is filled.
Director read copy of letter sent the City Commission regarding salary range
for Administrative Assistant to Public Works Director. Reported no reply.
Chairman Coit requested that Mr. Mauney preside as Chairman in his absence, if
tE,a meeting with the City Commission should be scheduled before the next Board
