The position of Fire Alarm Superintendent, FireDepartment, discussed. It was the conccnsus of the members that this should be filled by promotional examination, open to all firefighters who had fulfilled their probationary period satisfactorily. Director was instructed to prepare an examination and advertise the date of examination in usual manner t advising the Appointing Autho:rity and Chief of theFire Department ,the decision of the Board on this subject. Acknowledgment made of the copy of job analysis and organization plan for the Fire Department submitted by Chief Dobson. No action felt necensary. Letter read from Fire Inspector George ouhmeycr and Arzie Uolfe regarding pay step increase. Referred to pay adjust'D1ent committee. Nember Coit repol-tad a meeting was to be scheduled at an early date. On the Driver-Engineer tests, which Chief Dobson notified the Board had been con- ducted, Mr. Coit requeGted ,that the Board issue instructions that the Director " 'write Chief Dobson and request that copy of, the examination given, the papers of the fire personnel who took the ex~ination, the method of gra~ing) the source from which the material ,.;as taken and the leey be furnished the noard for review. All Incmbcrs were present with tho exception of William nlrchall, who was absent due to illness. The positions for the new Utilities Sales Office were discusaed and it was agread that same should not be undor civil Service~ but under contract. Letter mentioned by.Mr. Finch to be written from Board to Commission - a gentlemen's agrcament re: Utilities Representative not to be under Civil Service. , . It was agreed that the Fire Alarm Superintendent's position should be filled from ,within the ranks. ./ Driver pay discussed and the names of those who would receive the extra pay are on file with the City Mannger. It was reported that some mis-representation had been made by ,the Fire Chief to the men regarding this extra pay for drivers. Mr. Coit brought up the subject of understudies for the department heads and the matter of department staff meetings was mentioned, but no decisions made.
