2. Florida Power Corporation .. Presentation .. Transmission Lincs.
\\
R. C. Appel. Florida Power Representative, described how
Flori da Power sel act s a route. He then discuss ed Mls80url (Avenue
and why it is an undeslrabl e route. They had tho Missouri Avenue
vldeo..tape in addl tion to the one of the proposed route. Mr. Appel
presented the vi dca-tape of the proposed route, beginning in Largo
and going 110rt h on Highland Avenue. At thl s poInt of the route the
transmissIon lines woul d he 011 the east 8i de.
Roy Ayres asked if' the R..O- W was wide enough and Mr. Appel
answered that Flori da Power would get as close to the R-O... W as
possl hI e. In answer to Don Meerlans question as to whether Flori da
Power was goi ng through residential areas, Mr. Appel said they'were.
Paul .Rettig asked if they waul d be addi ng to the exist ing fad Utiea.
Florida Power answered affirmatively. This is a primary consideration
in sel ect ion of thei r route. Don Meerlans asked if they were considerl ng
putting pol es aB close to the curb as they are now. Flori da Power is not.
Mike Kent on asked if the new poles would be as big and would they
have arms. as the current poles do. ; ",,: Mr. Appel replied the poles would
be Z4-inchea minimum for diameter and made of at eel. He cant inued
with a more det ai led desc ri pt ion.
. Mr. Appel. answer affirmatively to Terry Jennings~ query as to
',whether existing lines would be transferred to the new poles. Terry
Jennings' also' asked if there would be less poles and Mr. Appel. anBwered
'that there would be less transmissi on poles and eliminat ion of as many
of the p~les as possibl e is one of Flori da Power' B goals.
'\
. 'Don Alexander inquired if the poles would be the Bame si ze as
the ones on Belcher Road and Mr. Appel' answered that the configurat ion
would be diiferent and the pole would be the same si ze.
. Roy 'Ayres asked what the steel pole .,at Clevel and and Greenwood
was and how does it compa re in sill4e. Mr. Appel replied that it is a tangent
deading structure and the size is approximately the same aB those for the
proposed transmission line route.
,
:/
Mike Kent on questioned whethe~ lines would be above trees and who
would be in charge of line-cl eari ng. Mr. Appell Bat d he writes work
,orders and has them done by the Florida Power Hne-clearing supervi sore
,He then w:.e~t on to show the vi deo-tape of the a1 te rnate route Which begins
on Righi and at Belleal r Road and goes north.

Pa.ul Rettig asked which Bide of the road the line was on at this
point and Flori do. Power responded that it was the east side. The R-O... W
is very erratic, hence thoy rnay have to switch from one side ,to the
other. Mr. Appel saId they will choose the pat h of least resl stanco.
Flori da Power may have to pay General Telephone Company to move some
of their telephone 11nes so Florida Power does not have to rai se thei r
lines too high.

Paul Rettig asked if the line was for service to Clearwat er onl y,
or other munic.ipalities also. Mr. Joe,Scala of the Assistant Planning
Department of Florida Power Corporation, answered the line is for Clear-
wat er, Dunedi n. and Pal m Harbor and that the additional facilities are
needed for 'the just named area. Also, the East Clearwater substat ion
'on U. S. Highway 19 has a corridor just south of it and should the co:r-
ridor suffer. an outage, chances are there would be severe outage B for all
customel's south 'of the substction. Too, this line would bring generat ing
facilities outsi de of Pinellas Count y lnt 0 south Pinellas.
