At this po{nt, Mcss~s. Vollick, Hassell, Jr. and NcLeren, representing
General Telephone Company (Tampa) Here introduced. Hr. Vollick presented
General Telephone's plans to the Board; i. e., request for expansion of
facilities at present location and new tower to be erected. Recommendation
for> PUD- C has been accepted by General Telephone and plan revic\.Jed by the
Building Official, Eneineering Dept. (on ctrainaee), Le~al Dept. on 10 ft.
addition, to Betty Lane, and vacation of easement. Expan~ion will provide
fol.' parking and access to proper.ty; also, radio equipment building ','1hich
will be the main to]l switching center, one of three in the state. Plans
were filed with FCC on October 22, 1969 for approval. Approval must also
be obtained from FAA. PlanninB Director asked that these letters of ap-
,proval) v1hen received, be submitted to the B9ard.
Mr. Vollick continued his p~csentation and stated that St. Petersburg ~ill
be contacted re plans prior to the public hearing; that neighbors had been
contacted and no objections received re flashine beacon; tower wi.ll be mucc
of high carbon steelJ stressed for hurricanes; and Jandscaping and buffer
will be part of the plan.

Gencr~l discussion followed; the General Telephone representatives were
thanked for their presentation and left.
,lotion was made by Mr. Harries, seconded by Mr. Reade, that the plans of

the height limits be accepted up to 245 ft. as per Genera] Telephone and the
approval of the FCC and FAA (flashing tower-beacon) at 175 ft. level, Motion

that R-4D be denied and R-3 for the north portion, and R-2 for the south
portion to a depth of 150 ft. MOL, be recommended for-the tract. On voting.
decision was split. After more discussion, another motion was mdde and
seconded that R-4D be denied and that R-IC, or better, be recommended for
the entire tract. Motion carried.
An amendment to the above motion was made by Hr; Butler, seconded by
Hr. Harries, that the Board inform the City Commission that the Board re-
commended. app~oval of the origi:nal application on a hardship basis. only,
~l" 'because the foundations were already in at the time that the application- ~
. carne to the Board under a permit issued by the county and that the Board.now
wishes to hold the line on any further 9~ch development in that area. Motion
