06/01/1956 , ."..0"-- Minutes of meot1ngYr1da~ June 1. 1956 in the Cit2 Hall Auditorium .~ This was a oalled meeting of the Park Oommittee of the City Oom- mission, the ~lanning Board, the Crest Lake Assooiation and the Skyorest Sohool PrA. Planning Board members PI' eeent ware Chairman Kruse, members Homer, Levison, Norton and Reade. City Commissioners present we~e Mayor Brown, Commissioners Insco, and Roberta. .f.' , , 1 "..~"f./ The meeting was opened at 1:45 P.M. by Mayor Brown who turned the meeting over to the Chairman of the Park Committee of the City Commissiono Commissioner Insco. Commissioner Insco read exoe~sJ pertaining to Crest Lake Park, from Oommission minutes of February 20th and April 30th. Commissioner Insoo then introduoed Mr. Kruse and asked tor any comments he might l'Iish to make oonoerning Crest Le.ke Park. Mr. Kruse stateC1 that the tirst thing the Planning Board did after reoeiving the assignment trom the Commission was to aoquire aerial photos of the area. He then ex.plained the process of stucty that had resu1 ted in the drawing of the sketoh presented at this meeting. Mr. Kruse also explained in detail the sketch and answered questions from the audience. Commissioner Insoo then asked for the representative of the Skycrest Sohool Pl'A to gl ve any oomments they .might wish to make. Mrs. Boyd Harris stated that the Skyorest PTA was well pleased with the sketoh whioh the Planning Board had drawn up. but they had hoped it Would have basketball oourts and playground equipment such as swings for small ohildren in it. Mayor Brown commented on this alX1 statea that they had tried to "strike a happy medium" to .meet the desires or all interested and make the Park useful as well as a thing of beauty. neoeasary. Mrs. Ferguson, Chairman or the Civio Beautirioation Commi~tee of the Garden Club said that the Garden Olub woula be more than glad to help in any way they oould with Crest Lake ~ark. Mayor Brown thanked her and said that the Garden Club would probably be oalled upon later to assist in planting. There was some discussion of the ty pe mat.~rial the sidewalks should be made of but no conolusions were reached. Commissioner Insco reportea that the Eleotrical Department of the Oity had eSuimated the l+gnts tor the Park would cost around $1,500. Mayor Brown commented on the sugges~ion of plaoing more play equipment on the ground of Skycrest Sohool and said the matter would be investigated. Mx. Sterle said that on May 18th the Association had passed a resolution on the tY.l.'J pla.n they would endorse ror the area, and stated that he be11evea that the sketoh drawn by the Planning Hoard da~ed May 14th was well within ~he scope or the resolution and would be entirely favorable to the Assooiation. '1~H . .1,. ~rr ,r,,: " ' June 1, 1956 Page J In the event that quoatio~8 might be asked by the Garden Club, or other interested parties conoerning the Stevenson Creek Park, the Planning Bo~rd inoluded in its exhibits a reoently prepared Sketoh of the Park at Stevenson Creek. This proposed park did enter into the discussion informally and a print of the proposed park was given to Mrs. Haseltine of the Garden Club for her study. However, it is not antioipated that any action will be taken by the Garden Olub until its first meeting in the Fall. It was the opinion of Mrs. Haselti~e and other ladies of the Garden Club that were present that the scheme appeared to meet their desires and .requirements. The meeting adjourned at 2:)0 P.M.
