This was tho first meeting in tho now ofrioe of tho Planning Board.
Present wore members Kruse, Homer, Norton, Levison, Reado, Barries~
MUscarella, City Engineer Liokton, Nick RompoD of the City Engineer's
Orrice, Oounty Engineer Hester, Joe Devlin of the Clearwater Sun, Chuck
Albury of tho St. Petersburg Times and a photographer from the st. Peters-
burg Times.
Most of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of "M R 1- with
County Engineer Hester in which his views and recommendations were brought
out. He advised that the City of' Largo had decided to have a traffio
survey made by a firm of consulting engineers. MrG Hester was of the
opinion that right-or-way for arterials and for colleotor streets adopted
by the Planning Board are wider than needed. He expressed the view that
it would not be possible to obtain rights-of-way of these widths in ~be
County and that the County Commission probaply would be unwilling to adopt
them. He proposed that arterials should be 100 feet instead of 120 fee~
as proposed by the Planning Board. This would/provide for the following:
4 - 12 foot driving lanes
2 - S :ftlot parking lanes
1 - 16 toot center par~{ay
2 - 10 foot strips for sideualks and utilities.
Mr. Hester stf!.ted that u. S. 19 through St. Petersburg is this width and
that the City or St. Petersburg has adopted tbis width right-or-way.
Mr. Hester suggested that. oollector streets have 80 root rights-of-way
instead of 90 foot as adopted by the Board. This would provide for:
2 - 12 foot driving lanes
2 - 11 foot driving lanes
2 - 7 foot parking lanes
2 - 5 foot parkways
2 - 5 foot sidewalks

Mr. Hester reported thnt tho City of Dunedin will probably develop
Highland or Milwaukee Avenues or both as arterial road\iays. He suggested
that the Planning Board revise "M R 1" to eliminate the junction of
Bet.ty Lane and Highland Avenue at New York Avenue in view of this plan
of Dunedin. He suggests extending Union street to Highway 19 and Palmetto
to Coachman Road and that Druid Road be extended to U. S. 19 as an arterial
h1gbw~ with 100 feet right-of-way instead of a 90 foot collector as plan-
ned by the Board.
Mr. Bester feels that the diagonals shown on Planning Board "M R 1-
are impractical and will be dif'ficul t to obtain and are unlikely to be
adopted by the County Commission.
At the conolusion ot the discussion with Mr. Hester, Mr. Homer
moved that the Board express its thamcs to )~. Hester tor attending the
meeting and tor his ouggestions. Mr. Levison seconded the motion which
was adopted una.nimousl,... It. wa.s agreed by all members present that Ms .
v~ewB should be studied by members during the next week and Should be
discussed at. next weeks mee~ing of the Board.
During the discussion with Mr. Hester, the photographer rrom the
St. Petersburg Times took a photograph of the group.

meeting with officials of neighboring communities. Mr. Homer stated that
he would meet with the Town of Belleair, Wednesday, April 18th, Mr.
Levison with Safety Harbor on April 16th, and }w. Harries reported that
he would meet with Dr. Winohester of Dunedin, but that the date was not
.
specl~ied. Mr. Hester stated that }w. Reade should talk with ~wv Fussell~
