RESOLUTION NO. 02-44
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING CURRENT LEVELS OF FUNDING FOR THE
BEACH NOURISHMENT FUND; SUPPORTING FUNDING FOR
PROMOTION OF TOURISM; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the CVB Board has approved and is recommending to the Pinellas County
Board of County Commissioners (BCC) deferring payment of more than $2.4 million from the
existing beach nourishment fund; and
WHEREAS, 50% of the third-cent of tourist tax collected is dedicated by County
Ordinance to Beach Renourishment; and
WHEREAS, Pinellas County beaches are one of the County's irreplaceable and
invaluable assets as, both environmentally and economically, they are unparalleled as a source
of storm protection, a magnet for national and international tourism, and a provider of healthful
recreation for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is important to maintain an adequate marketing and promotion campaign
in order to prevent further downturns in bed tax collections; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Clearwater urges the Pinellas County
Board of County Commissioners to look to all other possible sources of funding for the Tourist
Development Fund before borrowing from or deferring payment to the Beach Renourishment
Projects Fund.
Section 2, This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
