Wednesday. DecenIDer 21, 1955. at 12:00 o'clock noon. with the following members present: w. E. Strang, Jr. Jack Russell Guy L. Kennedy J. N. Bohannon Commissioner COlIIDissioner COlIIDissioner Commissioner Absent: Herbert M. Brown Mayor-Commissioner Also present were: F. C. Middleton B. J. Driver G. 'l'. McClamma City Manager Assistant City Attorney Chief of Police The Assistant City Attorney called the meeting to order and stated that due to the absence of Mayor Bro~n it would be necessary to elect a Mayor pro tem. Commissioner Russell moved that Commissioner Strang be elected Mayor 'pro tam. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Bohannon and carried unanimously. The Mayor announced that the meeting had been called to canvass the City Election held on Tuesday. December 20th 1955. The Clerk presented tbe Kayor with the official returns trom the precincts and tbe absentee ballots. One absentee ballot was declared void as it was not returned in the mail unt.il Wednesday December 21st, the day after the election. The remaining absentee ballots 19) were opened and tabulated as follows: Chapter 30658. Kennedy Samuel J. Roberts For: Against: Commissioner Bohannon moved that the entire returns of the Municipal Election or December 20, 1955. be declared official. Notion was seconded by Commissioner Kennedy and can-ied unanimously. Commissioner Kennedy oCfered to ~ithdraw from the Committee authorized to negotiate for right of way for Myrtle Avenue from the Plwnb Estate. It was suggested by the Mayor that possibly Commissioner Kennedy could be appointed as Right of Way Agent in order to continue the negotiations and another Commissioner could be appointed on the Committe~ to work with him. By consent, the subject was deferred to the next meeting. The Mayor suggested that the Commissioners-Elect be invited to sit with the Commission if any meetings were called before January )rd. 1956. The Clerk was directed to forward to the Pine1las County Water and Navigation Control Authority a copy of the motion adopted at the meeting of December 19th which requested the Authority to defer the hearing on the Island Estates bay fill scheduled for December 22nd.
