City Attorney Chief of Police 1 '.' , ,', . .... -/ ~),,: ' The meeting was called to order by the Mayor who announced that the meeting had been called to canvass the results of the Special Election held on Tuesday, September 15th. The City Manager reported that he had been informed by Assistant Chief of Police Donald Genung that he planned to tender his resignation in order to accept other employment and that Mr. Genung had made the suggestion that the position of Assistant Chief of Police Be abolished and two additional uniformed captains be appointed 50 there would be one to take the responsibility for each shift. The Chief of Police stated that he was sure that Mr. Genung's intention to resign was not prompted by any friction or ill feeling but that Mr. Genung had an opportunity to secure a position which he considered more desirable. The City Manager stated that he brought it up as a matter of information only and no official action was required. · The Mayor read a letter from Mr. Thomas J. Borchers, First Vice Commander of the Turner-Brandon American Legion Post, requesting that the Legion be permitted to sponsor the Mills Bros. Circus in the City on November 2nd and that the City licenses be cancelled since the proceeds from the performance would be used for charitable purposes. Commissioner Crown moved that the circus under the terms as requested by Mr. Borchers be approved and that the appropriate City licenses be waived. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Strang and carried unanimously. I would like at this time to ask for cooperation of the City Commission, your office, and license bureau, to permit us to have this show on the adjoining property to Green Field and to void the necessary licensing in order that our child welfare fund and activities might profit from this undertaking. I can assure you that this show has never been equa1ud in the City of Clearwater, in that it is the no. #2 show in the country. There are no indecent acts and no showing on Sundays. If there is anyway that we, the American Legion can cooperate with you, by taking clowns or associated acts to any hospitals or orphanages on Sunday, Nov. 1, we would be glad to make the necessary arrangements.
