Smith, C. ?. ?"'are, Poy F. 'tlakeling, Aellas R, Sher- wood and Leo M. Autler, engineer, were present as representatives of the Erosion Commission. Each member of the City Commission was provided with a copy of the Erosion Commission's report and recommendations as set forth below: Clearwater City Commission Clearwater, Florida Gentlemen: As requested, the mom bets of Clearwater Beach Erosion Board have made a thorn investigation of the recent damage due to erosion on the city property on Clearwater Beach, 4iJith the iaea of remedying the damage by the addition of sand, all possible sources of supply have been investigated, These possible sources include: (1) The bar at the northeast end of Day Side Subdivision which proved to be of very poor quality and oY insufficient quantity to be considered. (2) The bar on the southerly side of Little Pass which is a great hindrance to navigation, This bar, altho of excellent material, is too far from the site to be economically available. (3) The large bar immediately east of the south end of the Island, This proved to be excellent material but is privately owned and also too far from the site to be economical, (l,.} The bar east of the Clearwater yacht Club ?ahich is of e?tcellent quality and in excess of 50,000 cubic yards. It is however, too far from the City property l??ing south of the Junior Chamber of Commerce building to prove a source of supply, (5) The northerly 200 feet of the Causeway Right of Way extending easterly Pram t;he west channel. This material is"not as satisfactory becpuse of its silt content but daze to its location has been selected as the most desirable site from which to secure the necessary fill material. This materiel can be deposited on the bef.ch with a maximum silt content of l0o by volume, This silt content will eventually be dissipated in the Gulf, but it must be anticipated that a certain amount ?.. of silt may be exposed on the proposed fill until such time as it is washed away. `iA.?''?. y'' ?: r.. 1.t S Y f '., '•FI 1?( ??t 1JJ +?'{Mil... 1 .? 1? ? i?w???????Xl? ? lw? ? ? r 1 : '? { ?y.ll i ?1y4???ky?'?.41i ? 1 I ?? 1 'J?ith this brief explanation The Clearwater Beach Erosion Board recortuuends tine following; (1) To most the present emergency in the area extending from Taylor's Trailer i'ark to Tltird Street (1360 ft,}, by pumping a minimum of 50,000 cubic yards to ue distributed evenly Yrum end to end at an estimated cost of ?16,UOU, It is impossible for this Board to estimate how long this material r?ould stay in place or be dissipated along the shore and the offshore bar. If a severe storm from the right direction should occur the above dissipation might be anticipated with the result that the exper?diture of ,16,000 would have been lost. To eliminate the possibility of this occurrence it is recommended that a groin system L•e installed imntedia'vely upon completion of the dredging operations. CITY COBRMISSION MEETING Apr , in front of this area, at an estimated cast of X19.00 per foot. is somewhat similar condition exi3ts at the city property ly- ing between Clearv?ater Street on the north and itockaway Street on the South, a:s in the area south of Taylor's Trailer Park. In this area the Board reootnmends that a stock Pilo of sand in the amount of 40,000 cubic yards be pumped fron the bar east of the Clear- water Yacht Club at an estimated cost of X16,000. Thiastook pile would not only build up the city beach at this point but furnish a concrete demonstration of what might be anticipated in the build- ing up of the beach by stock piling. It is not reoom¢?ended that groins be installed in this area at the present time but to defer this construction until its necessity is demonstrated. The above estimate does not include a sea wall which could be constructed at an estimated cost of 25,000. The desirability of a ?',? , ?j?, sea well is that the upland above the sea wall is protected and „??;, eliminates the possibility of a washout around the inshore end of (??r,?,- ,;tiy;(. the groins.
