The meeting was celled to oI'der by Muyor Houze and the minutes ot: the regular
meeting 01' December 20, the special meeting of December 22 and the special meeting
of December 31, were read and upproved.
Comraissioner Crane had no report from the License Oommittee on the application
of D. J. Bowman for a taxi license. It wus mm1ed by Commissioner Crane, seconded
by Commissioner Drew end unanimously carried that the mutter be deferred until the
next regular meeting.
Commissioner Kennedy, repres enting the C omrlli ttee considering the req uest C!f
George R. Smoyer heirs for 0 quit-claim deed from the City to a ten foot strip of
lots 5 and 6, Blook 3, Earll and Tates SUbdivision, reported that the Committee
did not believe it would be advisable for the City to issue the requested deed with-
out further investigation. It was moved by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by
Commissioner Crane and uIlsniruously obrried that the matter be dererred:"for further
study und investLgation by the legal department.

expenses of the High Sohool .do nd in e ttendillg the Inauguration Ceremonies in

Mayor-Commissioner Houze addressed the audienoe, expressing his ap~reciation
of the cooperation given him by the f'ellow membe~s of the Commission, the Press,
the Chamber ot: UODllaerce and the local merchants dux ing his admini stration, and
listed the improvements mClde and the Ordinances enacted during the pbst two years.
Gonunissioner Crane spoke briefly eX1lI'essing his ap Dreciation of the oooperation
of his fellow members 01' the Commission, and his hope ror continued, progress of
Olearv.ater.
0ity.httorney George VI. Smith submitted his resignation as Gity Attorney, to be

CITY COMMISSION MEETING
January J, 1949
Mayor-Commissioner Sargeant addressed those present and expresned his
gratifioation at the large ettendanoe, ond his wish that the publio would
continue to show interest in the Uity's affairs. He critioizd the Clearwater
Sun for having misquoted him on numerous occasi~ns. Mr. Sargetlnt expressed
his appreoiation to those who had sent floral offerings and pledged that he
would do everything possible to create a progressive and harmonious administBation.
The other Commissio~ers and City Manager Berulett spoke briefly.
It was raoved by Commissioner Drew, sec.:mded by Commis:lioner Casler and
u'nanimously oorried that Mr. George VI. Smith be ap pointed as Acti ng Oi ty Attorney
for the balance of the meeting.
Mayor-Commissioner Sargeant recolnJaended that John Rowe be appointed as
City i"ttorney. Commissioner Casler nominated A. T. Cooper. Commissioner Kennedy
nominated Benjamin Krentzmun. The Mayor-Commissioner called for a vote on
Ooramissioner Kennedy' s re\~ornrnendution 0 f Benj amin KI.entzman. Conmissioners Brown,
Drew and Kennedy voted for Mr. Krentzman, a nd he was declared as officially
appointed.
