PETITION
To Mr. James Vocelle, Director Beverage Dept., Tallahassee, ]1a., and to state Attorney,
Chester B. McMUllen, To County JudGe Jack ~nlite, to the Pinellas County Commissioners,
and the Clearwater City Commissioners:
We the undersigned citizens of Sunset Point, a section lying north of stevenson Creek
and south of the Dunedin line and east for abrut two miles, a torritor.y served by the
Clear\olster Post Office but much of it lying outside the ci ty limits, all of us bona fide
residents and most of us property 01v.nersp do hereby appeal to the above authorities to
revoke all licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors or a~ alcoholic beverages,
including wine end beer issued in or for sain territory, and prohiuit any other licenses
for the sale of alcoholic beveraees from beine issued. no,... or at e:ny future time in this
section.
This appeal is made for the reason that this is a residential section, heretofore peace-
ful and quiet, until a lnut a year ago without warning to neighbours, a man named Orville
Allen opened a beer ~~d ~dne tavern at 1865 Douglas Ave., ~rl11ch he recently sold to
otto Schultz and wife the pr~sent'operators~ The said place is a ~ublic nuisance and
was from the day it opened. It detracts from property values, and brings a bad repu-
tation to the whole community. It is dnngerous to all residents living near as well as to
passersby. Several have narrowly escaped beinG struck by intozicated drivers leaving
the ~alce. Women and girls have been accosted by patrons when passin~ even in broad d~-
light, others have been shocked by unsightly misconduct aloIle; dar streets where they
are obliged. to walk to anci. from the busline at niGht.
Viscious fi~hting has occurred recently and dt~ing the past year also, as can be proven
by court records of arrests. Invalids have been greatly disturbed, and several are living
in the nei~hborhood. It has contributed to the delinquency of children who have been
seen there frequently buying and carrYing away bottles of beer and wine. We can no' longer
tolerate this nuis~~ce and want it closed also we w~t the assurance that thie neighbor-
hood ~dll be forever free from such business.
Respectfully submitted,
(Petitioners)
