CITY C01<4tISSION MINUTES
The Oity Commieeian met in special session Thursday, May 22 at 10;00 o?olock a.m.
with the following members presents Houze, Sergeant, Well, Johnson, Crane, absent; none.
Mayor Houze explained that the purpose of the meeting was to consider the construction
of sanitary sewers and the widening and repaving of etreeta, as more particularly described
in a previously advertised public legal notice which is set out in full belor?.
The first ooaetruotion considered was the widening and repaving of Osceola Avenue
from a point approximately 230 feet north of Cleveland Street, north on Osceola Avenue to
Sunset Court. It appeared from plane and specifications submitted by the City Manager
that Osceola Avenue would be widened from its present width of 40 feet to 55 feet, that the
present width between curbs would be widened from 21 feet to ?p feet; also after widening
it would be 6 feat from the curb to the property 11ne on the east side of Osceola Avenue and
lOfeet from the curb to the property line on the west side of Osceo],a Avenue, that the curb
would be set back some few feet on the east side but no private property taken; that on tho
West aide 15 feet of city and private property would have to be secured.
Miss Edith Peck on behalf of Mrs. Nell T. Harrison stated that Mrs. Harrison would be
willing to donate the lead needed adjacent to her property if Osceola Avenue be widened up
to Donee Street. Mr, W.C. Tucker ob?octed to an,Y cost of this construction being assessed
against his property. It was moved by Commissioner Sergeant, seconded by Commissioner Tlells,
and carried that Osceola Avenue be widened l5 feet according to the plans and specifications
as submitted by the City Manager. The commission expressed the desire to extend the widening
of Osceola Avenue still further north as soon as finances would permit.
w
r
The plane and specifications concerning the widening of Laura Street from Osceola Avenue
to North Fort Harrison Avenue called for the widening of the street from 20 feet td j2 feet
between curbs; setting back the curb on the north aide 7 feet and setting back the curb on the
south aide 5 feet; the present right of way not to be changed. Mr. qal Syereon was present
and spoke is favor of the widening and stated that he knew of no adjacent property owners definitely
opposed to the measure except ldr. Tacker. It wa's reported that G.C. Parker and Freak
Muecarella were in favor of the same. Mr. W.C. Tucker expressed disapproval oP having
to bear anyr of the expense on the ground that the change was unnecessary and did not
increase the value of his property. It was moved by Commissioner Jo?neon, seconded by
Oommiseioner Crane and carried that Laura Street be widened according to plane and
specifications as submitted by the City Manager.
The nezt order of business was a consideration of the installation of sa S inch
sanitary newer line on Bay Esplaade from Acacia Street north to Narcissus Avenue,
thence west oa Magnolia Way to Lantana Avenue and thence north on Lantana Avenue to
the pumping station. A petition was before the Loard signed by g adjacent property
owners.which ask that the work be done. Nona present objected to this project. It
was moved by Oommieaioner Sergeant, seconded•by Commissioner Johnson and carried
that•the 8 inch sanitary sewer line be inatalleaaaccording to the plans and specifications
as submitted by the City Manager.
A hearing was now called on the installation of ea'g inch sanitary sewer line
