previous meetings were read and approved.

The liquor license application or the Melva Cafe coming before the Board
again for consideration, Mr. Hendrix read a petition of protest from the members
of the Calvary Baptist Church. It was moved by Mr. Johnson seconded by Mr. Wells
that the application be denied. The vote ~as as follows: ~or the motion ;
Johnson and Wells, against the motion Seavy and Smith--the vote being a tie the
motion failed. The petition or protest is set out below.
The City Attorney now read a paper to be known it passed as ordinance no.
520.Thls ordinanoe would probibit the sale of intoxicating liquors within 500f~
or a churah. It was moved by Mr. iohnson seoonded by Mr. Wells and ananimous1y
carried that ordinance no 520 be passed on its first reading. It was agreed
however that this ordinance would not be retroaotive.
Atter a report by Ralph Richards and City Manager Hendrix adviSing against
the levying of a f~el oil tax. it was moved by ~r. Wells seconded by Mr. iJohnson
and unanimously oarried that a fuel 011 tax be not imposed.
It ~as moved by Mr. Smith seconded by Mr. Johnson and unanimously carried
that the City reject a proposal obligating the City to pay a $100.00 bonus to
its employees returning ~rom the armed services.
The 6ommission took under advisement a petition of the residents of the
Country Club section objecting to the establiShing of a manufaturi~ distric~
on the north side of the Seaboard tracks and east of Green~ood avenue. Mr. N. E.
Britton addressed the Commission on behalf of the petition.
A letter was read trom the Clearwater ~ost of the Spanish American War
Veterans asking the City's help to~ard arr~~ging with the Veterans ot Foreign
Wars for permission to use the V. F. W . building in the City park as a meeting
place. This matter was taken under oonsideration.
It was moved by.Mre Johnson seoonded by Mr. Smith and carried that the
City sell to the Pinellas County Board of Publio Instruction tor $2500.00

unanimously carried that Mr. Perkins be appointed to fill out the unexpired \etm
of Mr. Pitts.
It was moved by Mr. Wells seconded by ~r. Smith that the taxi application
of Oscar McCol1~ be denied.
The Commission without objection approved the transfer of $25000.00 on
May 27th from the Gas & Water Fund to the General Fund; this approval followed
the motion of Mr. Wells seconded by Mr. Smith
On the motion of Mr. Wells seconded by Mr. Smith the Commission appointed
C. F. Taylor as acting City ~naBer and H. G. Wingo as acting City Clerk tor
the period June 8th to June 14th, and that Timothy Johnson be appointed X-
as acting Mayor-Commissioner for this period of time.
The written resignation of Herbert Grice as Commissioner was no~ read and it
was moved by~. Smith seoonded by Mr. ~ohnson and carried that tha resignation
be accepted. The Commission decided to meet Thursday afternoon at 5 otclock to
select a new Commlssioner.
It was moved by Mr. Smith seconded by Mr. Wells and carried that a resolution
concerning the laying of a ges pipe under the Seaboard tracks at Wyatt Stree~ be
adopted.
