Mr. F. L. Hendrix, City Manager,
City Hall
CLearwater, Florida
N.y Dear Mr. Hendrix:
I reoently signed a petition against the ohanging of' the name of Mariva
Avenue to Eucalyptus J~venue end I VJi sh to protest to both you end the City
Oommission against the step that was taken, without the knowledge of those
who live on this street, for to my best knowledge they were not consulted in
any way by tha person or persons who are responsible for the action.
I have made my home in Clebrwater winters since 1925 and my permanent
residence here for the last six years. I have quite a large oorrespondence
both professionally, socially and in I:l business waj' and suoh a chElnge will be
v.ery inconvenient for me in many ways as my stationery and cards are all printed
Meriva Avenue. ~ay I ask you to use your influence to see that the n~e of
Merive Avenue is retained and I a01 sure you will have the gratitude of all the
residents on the Avenue.
Aside from the inoonvenience the name Eucalyptus is entirely inappropriate
as I do not' believe there is a tree of that species on the street.
Tha nk you for your courtesy,
Sine eraly your s,
Rev. Surah Parker Thomson.

Dear Mr. Hendrix:
We visited Clearwater Municipal Ai~ort on April ll~ 1946 ror'the pur-
pose of examining the physi cel I:} 0 ndl ti on of the fi eld and ror an
inspection of the grouni recllities and operations. It is our opinion
~hat the operation is being conducted on sound principles and that the
lending Brea in general, is in good condition. It is further our opinion
that this enterprise is El service to your community wh ich is constantly
increasing in utility. Your a tten ti.:)n has un10ubtedly been directed upon
previous occasions to the existenoe in the center of the landing area of
a small -.l.nim.proved t riengle outline d by four boundary cone s . \'le b e1 ieve
that these cones are unnecessarily hazardous to the operation on or V~ y
close to the ground and believe that the field would be more e:fficient
'Without them. If they were removed the aree which they nC)N surround 'Would
have to be prepared for aircraft use, but this would not require more than a
nominal expenditure.
We wish to recommend to you the over-all desirability of removing these
oones and making the entil'e areb useabl e. Vie hope thb t you can concur with
this recommendation and that you CEin arrange for the taking of appropriate
action in the 'very near future.

Dear Mr. Skinner:
Thank you very much for your letter of April 3rd. We too are very much
interested in beautifying Clearwater.
The lines you speak of is the only line we have feeding Dunedin, which of
course inoludes Citrus Ooncentrates end Food Maohinery plants, and from an
engineering standpoint, it presents quite 8 problan when you attempt to put
under ground 8 line carrying such a heavy load. However, we are working on
a plan in which we hope we can move this line east of Edgewater Drive. At
the present time weare having considerable trouble securing any material.
Only yesterday ,several manufacturers noti~ed us that the transformers whioh
we have had on order would be f'urther delayed and the first shipment would not
be made before January 1947. As a m€ltter of fact, it is harder to get delivery
of some material now than it Vias during the war.

One ot: the objectives of this AssoclE:'.ti on is 'the Improvenlent and beautification

One ot: the conditions confronting llS is the unsightly row of poles that line both

these t'Wo companies heve larger interests at stake in Clearwater than in Dunedin.

We the undersiened citizens of Clearwater ere advised that you
contemplate the closing of Seminole .Perk and the seale of the property and we
therefore most respectfully but earnestly protest ag~inst the sale or this
property.
'since the establishment of this ?brk IDany of the un:lel'signed h!:lve purchased

hoping that it would be improved.
If the Park is closed and t:.1E3 property sold. because of it's location and
value, the lots would probably be used for' business purposes such as Filling
Station, Garage or other business establishments \nich would render our homes
unsuitable f::Jr residential purposes and greatly diminish the value thereof, which
we believe would be unfair to us, while on the other hand if this Park was improved
