A Petition concerning this llRtter is set out below. The City Commission informed a committe~ ~the Clearwater Merchant's Association headed by Mr. R. M. Baldwin that the City would probably carry on rodent oon trol work even though the Merohants made no further contri- bution. It was brought out that the Oomnissial agreed in Ootober 1943 to match :fUnds with the MerchaDrts Assoaiation in carryblg on a Rat lra- dioation Campaign1'. that the erohants had oollected for this purpose $621.00 of ~hioh ~400.00 had been turned over to the City; what had be- come of the ba1ance of $231.00 the uommi ttee did not know unless the same had become a part of their general :funds. The Connni ttee dl:d not ~eel that the Association was obligated to pay more than the $400.00 already oontributed. Although no written agreeIIBnt was entered into the olJlI[lissiCll was*at least '750.00 toward getting the work started. May 7, 1945 *********** '- --------,----- RESOLUTION WHEREAS the State Road, Department of the State ot Florida has hereto- fore undertaken maintenance of Drew Street in the City ot Clearwater ~ch was at one time the main thoroughfare used by traffic between Clearwater an:d Tampa; and WHEREAS the purohase of Davi B Causeway and the removal of tolls has now made Gult-to-Bay Boulevard, and Cleveland Street East of Fort Harrison Avenue, th~ main artery for traffic between Clearwater and Tampa, and . . . .WHEREAS the incr~ased vo~ume at traffic is oausing the PllVing on the above menticned boulevard and str~et to deteriorate, and said paving is in need of l~diate. a~d oont~nuing ma~n~enance; NOW, TrEREFORE, BE _.IT RESOLVED 'BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER that the State Road Department of the State of Florida be and it is hereby respectfully requested to discontinue maintenance of Drew Street in the Oity of Clearwater as a through highway., and-in lieu thereof to assume immediately the maintenance of Gulf-to-Bay and Cleveland Street East of Fort Harrison Avenue as a through highway. o This Resolution passed and adopted by the City Oommission of the City ot learwater, this 7 day ot May, A.
