I, Absent: Herbert Grice The meeting was duly oalled to order by Mayor Seavy and the minutes of the previOUS meeting were read and approved. Mr. Hendrix read to the BOArd a letter WTitten by George A. Louden, District Manager of the Florida Power Corporation, rela- tive to a renewal of the rranchise naw held by the Florida Power Corporation which expires Maroh 8, 1945. This letter is set out elsewhere in these minutes. Mr. A. W. Higgins, President of the Florida Power Oorporation, spoke briefly to the Board on the plans of the Florida Power Corporation for vhis area during the post- war period. The City Commission infor.med Mr. Higgins that th~ would take under advisement the question of a franohise renewal but that probably it would be three or four months before they could present it for serious consideration. Mr. Alfred P. Marshall,'representing the Clearwater Transit Company, and M. H. Jones, representing various Taxi cab owners in Clear~atert were before the Bo~rd relative to a proposed Taxi Ordinance. City Attorney, Ralph Riohards, requested that no final aotion be taken on the proposed taxi ordinance as he had not had an opportunity to work out the details of the same 'Wi th the a ttorneys of the interested parties. The City Commission post~bned' takihg any aotion with the understanding their conferences on the proposed ordinance should be completed by the next regular meetine. Mr. Alfred P. Marshall, aoting as agent for E. R. Coachmen and John R. Eeffords, presented to the Board for approva~ a p~an for replatting a part of the subdivision known as Clearwater Business District. No aotion was taken in the matter, pending further investi- gation. City Manager,Hendrix requested that the Board give its offioial approval to the recent purchase by the City of the follawlng desoribed property: ' Lot 4, Block ?, Jones Sub of Nicholson'S, purohased from Pin~~~o. ~., at a pri96, _ of $1',000.00, end . 1JJ~J.l1/~ Lots 5, 6, ?, 8, Block ?, Jones Sub of Nicholson's, purohased from E. It therefore appears that this franohise will expire on March 8, 1946. Over the years, this company and its predeoessors have en- joyed very pleasant relations with the City and with its inhabitants and we wish at this time to express our appreoiation for the opportunity to serve Clearwater, and for the many courtesies extended to us by the City officials over the past years, and by the present encubents. We are very muoh interested in obtaining e new franohise trom the City of Clearwater prior to its termination, and we believe that although the termination is apT'rozimately e year and B half' away, that it would be most advisable and advantageous to all parties ooncerned if' we oould appear before the City Oommission and disouss this matter with a view to arriVing at an amioable and benefioial oonclusion. With that thoughtin mind, we would like to meet with the City Commission either at its next regular meeting or an any time within the near f'uture whioh may be convenient to the members of the Oommission.
