ITEM #63 - Resolution 86-13 - (Fire) - Supporting an Amendment to the Life Safety Code to require an Approved Sprinkler System in Appropriate Faoilities in Pinellas County. This Resolution is the result of a request from the Pinellas County Fire Chiefs Association to support their efforts in implementing fire sprinkler protection for all new residential, commercial and appropriate faoilities in Pinellas County. Over the next few weeks the Fire Chiefs will be meeting with various groups to receive input regarding the Code. Construction trade-offs and building oode alternatives will be offered to make it economically feasible to oonstruot buildings with built-in sprinklers. Commissioner Regulski moved to amend Resolution 086-13 to read that the Fire Chief of the City of Clearwater is authorized and instruoted to potition the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board to hold Publio Hearings to determine the necessity and feasibility of amending the Life Safety Code to require sprinkler systems in all new residential, commeroial and other appropriate facilities built in Pinellas County with due oonsideration to the economic impact to the propel'ty owner', the speoific alternate oonstruotion requirements and documented savings to the general public by the reduction in the need to expend our fire-fighting forces. Motion was duly seoonded and aarr.1ed unanimously. Commissioner Regulski moved to pass and adopt Resolution 86-13 as amended and to authorize the appropriate officials to execute same. ITEM 164 - Resolution 86-16 - AuthoriZing City Manager to apply for Grant from Institute of Museum Sciences. The City of Clearwater is eligible for financial assistanoe from the Institute of Museum Scienoes to be used for the maintenance and enhanoement of the arboretum and herbarium at Mocoasin Lake Environmental and Education Center. This assistanoe is for operational expenses and enhancement only and may not be used for curation or new oonstruction. The grant requires a 50/50 matoh but allows the local share to be in-kind oontributions. The grant funds will be used to employ a part-time biOlogy student or oomparable person who would provide maintenance of the arboretum and develop educational and interpretive material, develop short and long range plans for the facilities, train City personnel and oonduot publio tours, eto.
