WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard Station, Clearwater,
Florida, was commissioned on August 1, 1973, and assigned primary
search and rescue responsibility for the Gulf Coastal and Intracoastal
Waterway area embracing the City of Clearwater, and
WHEREAS, during the period following such commissioning, the
station has conducted more than 1704 search and rescue missions,
many of which involved citizens of the City of Clearwater, and
WHEREAS, the high degree of dedication and professionalism
exhibited by the crew of the Clearwater Coast Guard Station has
significantly improved the safety of marine activities in the Clearwater
area and earned the respect of our boating community, and
WHEREAS, on August 4, 1977, the U. S. Coast Guard celebrates
its 187th year of outstanding service to marine safety, and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater desires to express
appreciation to the crew of the Clearwater Coast Guard Station upon
the occasion of the Coast Guard's 187th birthday celebration;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION REGULAIiL Y AND DULY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater hereby officially commends the
Officer in Charge, BMC Thomas P. Hogan, and the crew of the U. S.
Coast Guard Station in Clearwater for their concern for the safety
of the boating public and the high degree of professionaliam they have
exercised in carrying out their missions.
2. That a duplicate original of this Resolution be delivered forthwith
to said Officer in Charge, and a copy of same be forwarded to Commander
Joseph Finelli, U. S. Coast Guard Group Commander, St. Petersburg,
Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of August, A.D., 1977.
