WHEREAS, the opening of Dunedin Pass would substantially reduce the

excessive openings have a detrimental effect upon vehicular traffic to and from
''?;• Clearwater Beach; and
WHEREAS, the opening of Dunedin Pads would reduce the volume and
velocity of the water which now must pass through Clearwater Pass and which
creates a serious scouring action on the supports of the Bridge across Clearwater
Pass and creates a serious navigational problem; and

the flushing action of St. Joseph's Sound thereby improving the water. quality.
of the Bay; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater has at its own expense of $Z, 586, 360
dredged the Clearwater Pass and constructed a jetty to protect this Pass and
to provide access to the Gulf for the Coast Guard; and
WHEREAS, the City has been committed for a number of years to re-
opening Dunedin Pass, but because of the expense has been trying, in conjunction
with Pinellas County, to obtain Federal assistance; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has indicated that this
project would be eligible for Federal funding, but such funding in not available
in the Fiscal Year 1976 Budget; and
WHEREAS, the City has budgeted in the Fiscal Year 1975-76 Budget
$75, 000 and would consider a local share of $250, 000 with support of Federal
funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION REGULARLY AND DULY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:

•1. That the City. of Clearwater hereby officially requests and urges '
its Senators and Congressmen to assist in the allocation of funds to dredge
Dunedin Pass and to urge the Army Carps of Enghicere to perform this
project.
2. That.a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith`
to said Senators and Congressmen.
