RESOLUTION
No. 74 -,91
WHEREAS, the high cost of oil is having a drastic economic effect on
the citizens of our community, in the form of extremely high electric bills; and
WHEREAS, the extraordinarily high cost of oil imposed on the United
States by overt price fixing on the part of the Organization of Petroleum
Exporting Countries is the chief cause of high electric bills; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Government must be made aware of the
tremendous impact the high price of electricity is having on the citizens of
our community and be urged to take immediate action to resolve this national
crisis;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS :
1. That the Federal Government is hereby urged to take immediate
action to resolve this national crisis of the artificially high price of oil by
forcefully asserting its influence on the foreign governments comprising the
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to sell oil in the open market
under competitive principles and absent artificial price controls.
2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith to
the President of the United States, Senator Lawton Chiles, Senator Edward
Gurney and Congressman William Young.
