WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Comrniasion of
the City of Clearwater, Florida, that the Florida Pawor Corporation hs~s
made agplication to the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, 3'acfcsonvillo,
Florida, for a proposed aortal electric power transmission line [rem
Clearwater Beach Island to Caladeai Island across Dunedin Pass, Pinellas ,
County, Flarida; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater has contributed tune, money and
advertising to promote the use of yachts and boating, both power and sailing
vessels, in the Clearwater Harbor area; and
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Commission that
many of the residents in the area object to this power line and the attendant
poles and towers from an aesthetic standpoint; and
WHEREAS, the City Conunission feels that there axe other routes
which could be used to a goad advantage rather than obstructing the Pass
with the proposed high tension line; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater is desirous of objecting officially
to said proposed transmission line;
~~~~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE iT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
?`~;;' COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
~~., IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLX ASSEMBLED, AS
;~-'•~.~. FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater officially objects to the proposed
overhead wire crossing Dunedin Pass from Clearwater Beach Islam to
Caladeai Island on the basis of aesthetics and due to the possible hazards
, to navigation.
2. That there are other routes that the cable could follow, such ae
an underwater cable from Island Estates to Caladeai island which would not
abstract or create a hazard to navigation inasmuch as the cable would not
be in a pass which is subject to dredging and washing at all times.
3. That the City of Clearwater is interested in keeping its passes
open to all types of navigation; witness the fact that it has installed at
considerable expense a drawbridge across the Clearwater Pass area and
the. installation of this high tension line across one of its passes would not be
in keeping with the best interests of boating in the Clearwater area.
~4. That certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted forthwith
to the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, PO Sox 4970, Jacksonville,
