CITY COMMISSION MEETING September 2, 1965 The City COlmnission of the City of Clearwater met in special session at the City Hall, Thursday, September 2, 1965 at 9:15 A.M. with the followi~ members present: Joe Turner Clevel and Insco Amos G. Smith H. Everett Hougen Clifton Stephens Mayor-Commissioner Commissioner Conunissioner Commissioner Conunissioner Also present were: James R. Stewart Herbert M. Brown Max Battle Wallace B. Mackey City Manager City Attorney City Engineer Asst. Polic e Chief The Mayor called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by the City Attorney. / The Mayor presented Gene Robinson, Vice-president, Radio Clearwater, Inc., a card identifying him as good will Ambassador from the City of Clear~ater and also a key to the City for him to present to the Mayor of Reno, Nevada, where he will attend the finish of the Air Races from Clearwater to Reno. the Mayor announced that the purpose of this special meeting was to consider a bid which was postponed from the meeting of August 30, 1965. The City Manager recommended accepting the bid of Campbell Paving Co., Clearwater, in the amount of $59,074.39, with a 75 day time limit, for the paving, curbing and drainage o~ the following streets: Fifth St. Gulf View to Hamden Third St. Coronado to Gulf View First St. Coronado to Gulf View Brightwater Dr. - Harnden to Coronado Coronado Dr. - Gulf View to Fifth He also explained that the cost was about 2-1/2% higher than the Engineer'S estimate because of the 75 day time limit. Mr. John H. Harding, Bali Hai Motel owner spoke about flooding at the corner of Coronado Dr. and Fifth St. The City Engineer explained this would be taken care of by adding a new outfall. Mr. Albert Ricketts owner of property on the South side of Fifth St. mentioned flooding at the corner of Coronado Dr. & Gulf View Blvd. and spoke in favor o~ going ahead with the project, stressing the importance of the 75 day time limit without extensions. The City Manager stated that the only thing that might extend the time would be the weather. Upon a question, the City Engineer explained that this was 75 calendar days. Commissioner Hougen moved upon the joint recommendation of the City Engineer and Asst. Purchasing Agent concurred in by the City ~~nager that the contract be awarded to Campbell Paving Co., for the sum of $59,074.39, which is the lowest and best responsible bid and that the appropriate officials of the City be authorized to execute said contract which shall be in accordance with the plans and specifications and bid, with a time limit of 75 days. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Stephens and carried unan imous ly .
