CITY CUMMISSION MEETING

------._-...---- The Ci�y Commission of the Ci�y of Clearwater met in special session at the
City Ha1.l, Monday, May lOth, 1965 at 10:25 A.M. with the following members
present:

The Mayor called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by Chief
Booth. The Mayor announced that the purpose of the meeting was to hear a�report
from the City Nianager with regard to �he incident at Jack Russell Stadium, on
Thursday Evening, May 6th, 1965. The City Manager cal led on Mr. Eddie Moore wha
explained the incident and did not approve of the conduct of the youth at the
Stadium. He stated that toilet tissue and pa per cups were thrown around, some
of the youths climbed on the dugouts and refused to move, also some of the chairs
were damaged. There were 2,657 in attendance with 10 to 20'� i.nvolved in the
incident. Chief Booth spoke stating �hat the police officers were ridiculed,
profanity and taunts were used and an officer had his badge ripped off and one
was hit by a rock. The agent for the Rolling Stones stated that this had
happened in other ci�ies but police of Clearwater handled the situation better
than othe rs. The City Manager recommended that such programs be held in the
auditorium hereafter.
The City Attorney arrived at this time 10:42 A.M.
Mr. Eddie Moore stated that the auditorium was not large enough f or the Rolling
Stor�est attendance. Conunissioner Insco commended the youth in general for their
conduct at t he weekly pro grams in the auditorium and stated that a larger auditor-
ium was needed but other pro jects were considered to have priority. Commissioner
Insco moved to commend the Recreation Dept. and the Police Dept. on the job done
in the past arri this one in particular. Motion was seconded by Commissioner
Hougen and carried unanimously.
The re being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:55 A.M.
