08/28/1964 L(- .2-,1 CITY COMMISSION MEETING August 28, 1964 The City Commission of the City of Clearwater met in special session at the tity Hall, Friday, August 28, 1964. at 8:30 A.M. with the following members present: Robert L. Weatherly Cleveland Insco Amos G. Smith Joseph K. Turner, Sr. Mayor-Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Absent: Herbert R. Fields Commissioner Also present: James R. Stewart Herbert M. Brown Willis Booth City Manager City Attorney Chief of Police The Mayor called the meetinfl to order. Chief of Police. The invocation was given by Willis Booth, The City Manager announced the purpose of the meeting this morning was to con- sider three resolutions. Resolution #64-130 was presented commending Mayor James H. J. Tate and the citizens of Philadelphia on the playing of the "Phillies" baseball team as they are now leading the National League. Commissioner Insco moved that Resolution #64-130 be adopted and the proper officials be authorized to execute it. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Turner and carried unanimously. The resolution was to be delivered by a group of Clearwater businessmen on a trip to Philadelphia sponsored by the Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce to see the "Phil1ies" play on Labor Day weekend. The City Attorney presented Resolution #64-131 addressed to Mr. Gene MaUCh, Manager of the "Phillies" baseball team, commending the "Phillies" for leading the National League. Commissioner Insco moved that Resolution #64-131 be adopted and that the proper officials be authorized to execute it. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Turner and carried unanimously. Resolution #64-132 was presented approving the planning documents from Briley, Wild & Associates, Consulting Engineers, for construction of sanitary sewerage project (Clearwater East Interceptors Phase 3) in connection with application for a loan of approximately $53,000 from the U. S. Housing and Home Finance Agency. It was explained this would extend the north interceptor from McMullen-Booth Road to the Clearwater Industrial Park on Belcher Road. Commissioner Turner moved that Resolution #64-132 be adopted and that the proper officials be authorized to execute it. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Insco and carried unanimously, The City Manager recommended authorizing payment of $43,000 to Jones-Mahoney Corporation as the amount due on satisfactory completion of Plibrico's subcontract for the incinerator process equipment. He stated that he had a letter from the State Health Department saying the incinerator was operating in accordance with specifications and in accordance with their requirements. It was pointed outthat Briley, Wild & Associates as Consulting Engineers also approved this final payment. Commissioner Turner moved that this money that is due Jones-Mahoney Corporation be paid on the basis of the recommendation of the City Manager. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Insco and carried unanimously. Commissioner Insco reported receipt of a letter from the secretary of the a.A.S. stating that the organization would be celebrating an anniversary at the time of the next Fun 'N Sun program in 1965 and requesting that Clearwater recognize that as a.A.S. week. Commissione~ Insco moved to recognize the a.A.S. during the Fun 'N Sun celebration. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Smith and carried unanimously.
