CITY COMMISSION MEETIPIG
Decembex• 15, 1961
The Citp Commis'sior� of the City of Clearwater met in special session at
the City Hall, Friday, December 15, 1961, at '1t30 P.M., with the i'ollowing.
members present:
Robert Lo Weatherly Mayor-Commissioner
Cleveland Insco, Jr. Commissioner
Herbert R� Fields Commissioner
Amos G. Smith Commis�ioner
Kenneth Walters Commissioner
Also present were:
James R. Stewart City Manager
Herbert M. Brown City Attorney
Capt. �Y. Beam Representing Police Chiei
The Mayor called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by the
City Attorney. The Mayor announced the special meeting was being held to restore
names to the voting registration lists for the December 19th election ii any
names were omitted or corrections needed, The Clerk reported. the votin� regis-
tration books from the County Registrar would be ssed for Lhe precincts lying
wholly withln the City and the voting lists would be us�si for those precincts
which only partly lie in the Gity limits. There was no one present asking ior
any change in the list� or Uooks. The C1erk reported he had received no com-
plaints. Commissioner Insco moved that the Clerkis report be approved. Motion
was seconde� by Commissioner Fields and carried unanimously.
The Clerk presented a le,tter addressed to the City Commission reporting
that on December 14th he had inspected the voting machines to be used in the
December'19th election and found them to be properly prepared. Commissioner
Insco moved the Clerk�s report on the i:nspection of the machines be accepted
and approved. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Fields and carried unanimouslp.
The Clerk reperted it had been necessary to replace some of the poll
workers approved by the Commission on November 20th, 1961, because o� illness,
etc., and that the Mayor had approved the following appointments:
Frecinct 39 Mrs. I{ate Bogert to replace Mrs. Alice B. Coleman
Precinct 42 Roy C. Sims to replace Mrs. Helen C. Seixas
Precinct 4.2B Mrs. Alice E, Lenick to replace i"Irs. Ethel S, Buck
Prec�:nct J�3 Mrs. Doris Bateman to replace Mrs, Eunice McAlesher
The Clerk also stated he had recommended the appointment oi an extra inspector
in Precinct 1�2B, Mr. Thlarren Green, as there were several precincts voting at
that location. Coinmissioner Fields moved the appointments be approved as
recommended by the Clerlc, and that the action of the Mayor be ratified and approved
also. Motion was seconded hy Commissioner walters and carried unanimously.
Cammissioner t�lalters suggested that there were many reti.red persons or
senior citizens wha were not able tc� pay full price to ses the Phillies exhi-
bition games at Jack Russell Stadium and suggested the5r he charged half price.
Commissioner Walters :noved that tha Commission have a raso?.ution drawn addressed
to the Phillies requesting that they cansider permitting ret3rees or senior
citizens to attend the Phillies games at half'price upon presenting proFer social
security identification. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Fields and carried
unanimously.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned a.t 2:03 P.M.
