from Gulf Squipment Company, 'l'ai.lpa. He recommended acceptance. i.Ir. G. Weimer,
Assistant Purchasing Agent, read the list of the six companies tha t. VJere notified
of the advertisement for bids. Commissioner Insco Illoved upon the joint recommendation
of the Gas Superintendent, Utili ties 1,ianager and Assistant Purchasing Ae;ent that the

from his contract and to nd ;:,ince t.h e City st.full does not know vlhen tbe work will

Ordinance 7'73 as trash end garbnge collections \'Iere bein~ made by a private collector

rolice Department to correct the sign violations that are going on in the City,
particularly at Highland Avenue and Drew Street.
A brief discussion ensued on the status of the widening of Court Street from
Hillcrest to Hi~hland, on Drew S~neet widenin~ frolu Qre~nwood westerly to Osceola
and its extension to Glearhater bay, al::lo on Pieree Street from Greemvood to j'.:dssouri
and on cut.ting the northeast corner of f'ierce Street and South Fort Harrison to
eliminate t.he jog. '.l.'he Engineer stated the engineering W:tS complete but the projects
were being held up for lack of obtaining the neceSSAry right of way. By consent,

made the repairs buti they were not holding due to the rainy weather. The 1'/.layor point-

from his contract and bond since the City st�ll does not know when �he work will

spent many hau'rs trying to work out a pay �lan that v�ould be just and equiza�le
for the em�,loyees of �he City, no� only for the firer�en and policemen but every
e:a�loyee of the City. He said when the policemen's salaries r�ere co�pared with
o�;her cities taking into consideration the lon;evity pa�, the retireaent plan, Lhe
dry cleanin; of uniforms and the epuip�ent that Clearwater buys its policemen, he
d�d not think there was any room for critici:m.
`Phe Httorney reported the Brown-Stephens Pipe Line Contractors, Inc., while
installi.ng natural gas transmission lines haci damaged some streets, curbing, arive-
ways, etc,, and the Engineer had estimaL-ed �i�,000.00 should be withhelei from final
payment to take care of these renairs. '1'he �lanager reporLed tne contractor IZad
made the repairs bu'G they were not holdin� due to the rainy weather. The i.iayor point-
ed out such a settlement would constitute ab�ndonment of Lh� con�ract and if the
repairs cost more than ��,''l�,000.00 the Cit�r would have to pa3r L11e additional cost.
