CITY COMMISSION MEETING
July 27, 1959
The City Commission of the Oity of Clearwater met in special session at tno
City Hall, Monday, July 27, 1959, at 1:30 P.M. with the following members p~e8ent:

The Mayor called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by the
Reverend Dr. MoGeaohy, Pastor of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The Mayor announoed that the purpose of the meeting was to oonsider a
Resolution to provide for a bridge and oauseway across Little Pass south from
Clearwater Beaoh.
The Attorney read Resolution 59-76. A group from Indian Rooks approved the
Resolution. Included in the group were Colonel W. S. Dawson, Mayor; ~. W. B.
Henderson, Commissioner and representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions
Club; Mr. R. E. Lemke, President of the Civic Association; and Mr. Dixon, a mem-
ber of the Civic Association. Mr. MaoDonald o~ Belleair Beach also expressed
approval. They all indioated that they hoped their towns would pass such a
resolution also. Commissioner Watkins moved that Resolution 59-76 be passed and
adopted and the proper offioials be authorized to execute it, and that certified
oopies be sent to appropriate state officials and adjoining oity officials. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Insoo and carried unanimously.
The City Manager announced receipt of a letter from Guy L. Kennedy, Attorney,
representing the World Furniture Company, requesting Commission approval to hold
an auction sale of their present stock starting August 3 and lasting ~rom 45 to
60 days. The City Attorney stated that two licenses would be requiredj one for
the Company and the,other for the auctioneer personally. He also said that the
City Code states that consideration of suoh an item shall be taken up at a
regular meeting and that this meeting is a special one. Commissioner Watkins
moved that the letter be reoeived and pIa oed on the agenda of August 3, that
being the next regular meeting, which would be in oompliance with the Code. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Insoo and carried unanimously.
The Mayor stated he wished to clarify his position relative to the moving of
the Pinellas County Court House. He emphasized that he did not speak as the Mayor
o~ the City of Clearwater at the meetings that have been held on the subject; and
that he, as a tax payer and citizen, is opposed to the move. He also stated that
when the oitizens of Clearwater sufficiently express their opposition to the
moving of the Court House, he will then aot in his official oapacity as Mayor.
The Commissioners present who had attended the meetings ooncurred with the Mayor's
statement, reiterating that they did not act in their official capacities.
Commissioner Insco announced that as President of the Florida Shore and Beach
Preservation Association, he had called a Directors meeting for this coming
Saturday to determine a meeting place for the annual State Convention, and he felt
sure that the Convention would be held in Clearwater.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 2:10 P.M.
