The request of Florida State Employment Service was considered.
Mr. R. L. Cowart, ~~nager of the Clearwater office, presented an
artistls conception of the proposed building and outlined the plans
of the state for the area. Mr. Elwood HOGan, attorney, presented a
petition with 84 signatures objecting to the application and spoke
of plat and deed restrictions. Others objecting were Mr. H.
Burkhart, Nr. George Butcher, Mrs. Fred Arndt, Mr. L. Dawson, Mrs.
Doris Alvord. The Secretary read a letter of objection from I~.
John R. Grollemund, 111 N. Cirus Avenue. Upon consideration of the
appeal of the Florida State Employment Service from the decision of
the Building Inspector concerning denial of a J?ermit to use Lot 3"
Block A, Slrycrest Unit 10 (presently zoned R-l)" for non-commercial
parking in connection with new office to be built on Drew Street,
it appearing after this duly constituted pUblic hearing that there
are not such practical difficulties or unnecessary hardships in the
way of carrying out the strict letter of the provisions of the zoning
ordinance as would justify a variance of such provision and that the'
same cannot be made ~dthin the intent of the zoning ordinance, Mr.
Shepard moved that such appeal be denied. Motion was seconded by
Jl1r. Stoutamire.
Shepard, Stoutumire" Hougen and Marquardt voted IIAyell.
Levison absent. Motion carried.
The Board discussed the request of Mr. George M. McCracken. ~1r.
Herbert C. Schwartz, contractor" represented the applicant. I~.
Eloy R. Vega, 807 Eldorado, objected. Upon consideration of the
appeal of George M. McCracken from the decision of the Building
Inspector concerning denial of a permit for a ten foot setback from
Eldorado Avenue for Lot 3" Block 5" Mandalay Subdivision (presently
zoned R-l)~ it appearing after this duly constituted public hearing
that there are practical difficulties and unnecessary hardships in
carrying out the strict letter of the provisions of the zoning
ordinance as it affects such property and the same can be varied
within the intent of .the zoning ordinance, Mr. Shepard moved that
such appeal be granted in accordance \dth the application submitted
there~dth \dth the proviSion that the setback shall be in line with
Dhe house south of it and that the right to obtain a building permit
in accordance with such variance shall cease after six months from
this date. Motion was seconded by 14r. Hougen.
Shepard" Stoutamire" Hougen and Marquardt voted ItAyelt.
Levison absent. Motion carried.
The Board considered the request of Mr. Eugene Z. Jackson who was
present. Mr. Charles Ummer spoke in favor of the application.
Mr. Marquardt read a memo from the Zoning and Planning Board
indicQting the possibility of Greenwood Avenue being widened to an
eighty foot right of way at some future date. Mr. Jackson in
response to:a question Jrom Mr. Marquardt "stated he had no
objection to the widening of the right of way and still wished the
requeattobe considered. Upon consideration of the appeal of Mr.
