The Board unanimously selected Mr. Rodney Haynes of Peoria, Illinois as their choice for the position of Executive Director. Mr. Cope made a motion, which was seconded by Mr. Carley, to invite Mr. Haynes and his wife to spend several days in Clearwater and to arrange for Mr. Haynes to meet with various city officials, and to afford him the opportunity to ask any questions. Mr. Bomstein will negotiate a compensation package with Mr. Haynes and he will, in turn, present it to the Board for approval. A vote was taken and motion passed unanimously. . Mr. Bomstein gave an update on the bandshell report. The contract was awarded to Creative Contractors as a result of their low bid of $119,000, not including lighting fixtures, which will amount to an additional cost from $2,500 to $3,000. Creative Contractors borrowed $29,000 from the city as an advance against future gifts in order to enter into the contract. The Bandshell will be serviceable in time for the Jazz Holiday. Mr. Bomstein appointed three persons to serve on the nominating committee: Phyllis Jones, Chairman; Lee Arnold; Gene Anderson. They will report back to the Board at the next monthly meeting. Four persons will run for two positions available - Mrs. Phifer and Mr. Zabel are the incumbents whose terms expire this year. Mr. Cope brought up the enforcement of the mlnlmum property standards ordinance for downtown and wanted to know what progress had been made. Mr. Berfield remarked that the city is still working on it. Mr. Bomstein will meet with Mr. Shoemaker this month to review this issue. Mr. Bomstein encouraged the Board to attend the IDEA convention seminar in Miami. Mr. Bomstein read a letter received from Harrison Robertson concerning his property on the north side of the 500 block of Cleveland Street. He also read a letter from Jim Sheeler outlining various programs and the potential or non-potential eligibility for the City of Clearwater. Cozie Smitht, Chairperson of Sparkling Clearwater Day, which will take place October 15, 1983, wants to be furnished with locations of properties that need special attention for clean-up.
