The third item on the agenda was a letter sent by Dr. Paul Brown
concerning parking spaces located on Alexander Avenue. He felt that
the loss of these spaces would affect his business. Mrs. Phifer was
in disagreement with this saying Dr. Brown would not be hurt. Mr.
Warren made a motion to send a letter to Keith Crawford asking his
purpose and intentions on this matter. Mayor LeCher made a second and
the motion passed.
Mr. Casella reported on the Smaller City Downtown seminar, June 11th-
13th and consulting panel visit to Umati1la, June 15th-18th. Both the
seminar and the panel proved to be a tremendous success.
Mrs. Phifer made a motion which was seconded by Mr. Warren for approval
of minutes of May 27th, 1980. A vote was taken and the motion was passed
unanimously.
Mr. Hammock reviewed the financial statement of May 31, 1980. Mr. Thayer
made a motion and was seconded by Mr. Warren for approval. A vote was
taken and the motion passed unanimously including agreement that draperies
would be ordered for Mr. Casella's office and would be charged to the rent
budget.not to exceed $327.00.
The next item on the agenda was correspondence. Mr. Casella presented
the following letters:
1. A letter from Mr. Carl Ludecke, Umatilla Redevelopment Council, thanking
Mr. Casella for the time expended during his three day visit to Umatilla.
2. A letter from Douglas P. Vimmerstedt, Research Director of Pinel1as
County Industry Council, thanking fir. Casella for the successful seminar for
Smaller Cities. He enclosed a copy of House Bill 1572 for review regarding
Tax Exempt Industrial Revenue Bond Financing in the State of Florida.
3. A memo from the Board of Directors of the Bradenton Downtown Development
Authority that the Bradenton City Council voted 5-0 to have designated
the Bradenton Downtown Develo~nent Authority as the Community Development
Agency.
4. A letter from Mr. Henry Hammond from Island Estates Sertoma thanking Mr.
Casella for his excellent presentation on May 16th.
5. A letter from Mrs. Dorothy Baggett of Oak Bluffs regarding the stand
against the Scientologists and inadequate parking.
6. A memo from Gayla Dease of Intown Business Association. Inc. in Pensacola,
Florida regarding the first rate entertainment at the Capitol 1heater and
asking for suggestions and comments for their own success.
7. A letter from Tony Shoemaker, City Manager, regarding a replacement
grocery store for the fanner Winn Dixie site on Prospect Avenue.
8. A letter from Ronald J. Schultz, Pinellas County Property Appraiser,
stating that his operating budget will increase 17.8%.
9. A letter from Ronald Schultz, Pinellas County Property Appraiser, regarding
the recent assessment legislation. A meeting on this will be held on
Thursday, June 26, at 9:30 a.m. in the County Commission Assembly Room.
