The business at 601 Bayway Boulevard is undergoing an ownership
change. It is my understanding that this business may request a
variance to allow sales of alcoholic beverage past midnight.
According to city Code Chapter 72.04 establishments licensed
under F.S.S. 563.02 (l)(a); 564.02 (l)(a); and 565.02 (1)(a)
cannot dispense beer or wine between the hours of midnight to
8:00 A.M. each week day, and between the hours of 12:00 midnight
saturday and 1:00 P.M. Sunday.
I feel that any variance on City Code 72.04 for this business
will only exacerbate the existing problems on Clearwater Beach
which the City is attempting to alleviate. At present this
business location has been a gathering point for young people
cruising on the beach. Any consideration in changing the hours
of alcoholic beverage sales would only escalate the problems of
rowdyism in this area. I do not feel that it would be compatible
with the needs of the neighborhood to make any changes in regards
to Chapter 72.04.
