He presented a restructuring plan that would lower the budget and eliminate three positions from the current level of staffing. Two assistant ohiefs would be down graded and the struoture of the Fire Department would be redistricted so one captain superVises Fire Stations 1, 2 and 3 and another captain supervises 4, 5 and 6. Also in the restructuring plan a training offioer is requested to replace two lieutenants who now fulfill that function. The training officer would be for publio eduoation regarding fire prevention and survival teohniques as well as internal training of firefighters. Three firefighter positions would be eliminated. Those three positions are currently vacant and would not be filled. He also proposes to convert one of the bays at flre station 13 into a supply area and to oonsolidate the supply function at that location. The fire inspeotors would also be plaoed in districts with the Fire Marshall in the downtown station superVising the inspeotors for stations 1, 2 and 3 and the Assistant Fire Marshall working out of the Twig Library looation, superVising stations 4, 5 and 6. By plaoing the inspeotors in distriots, it will oreate cost savings in travel time, gasoline oonsumption, and work load.
