, RESOLUTION NO. 91~11
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, HONORING AMERICAN MILITARY PERSONNEL FROM
CLEARWATER WHO ARE MISSING IN ACTION IN SOUTHEAST ASIA,
AND ADOPTI NG LT. MORGAN J. DONAHUE AS AN HONORARY
CITIZEN OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER: PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission wants to express its support for American
troops serving their country: and
WHEREAS, 2,296 American military personnel are still listed as missing in
action in Southeast Asia, eighteen years after the involvement of the United
States in that conflict ceased: and
WHEREAS, five of them, Christos Brgiages, Jr., Carl J. laker, Jan H.
Nelson, Robert l. Sandner and Edward W. Williams, considered Clearwater to be
their home of record: and
WHEREAS, more than 6,000 live sightings of Americans still being held
captive in Southeast Asia have been reported since 1973: and
WHEREAS, one such sighting which occurred in November of 1990 was of Lt.
Morgan J. Donahue: and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the City of Clearwater to recognize
and honor these brave men and their families for the contribution and sacrifice
they have made: and
WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the belief that, regardless of which
cour.try holds them captive, Americans Do Not Abandon Americans: now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Christos Bogiages, Jr., Carl J. laker, Jan H. Nelson, Robert
l. Sandner and Edward W. Williams are recognized and honored for their service
to and sacrifice for their country.
Section 2. Lt. Morgan J. Donahue, U. S. Air Force, a brave American still
serving his country in Southeast Asia, is hereby adopted as an honorary citizen
of the City of Clearwater.
Section 3. The City of Clearwater requests the United States Government
to strenuously pursue the release of those Americans sti 11 held captive in
Southeast Asia and the return of the remains of those that made the ultimate
sacrifice in service of their country.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
