RESOLUTION
No. 88 - 26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING A ONE-CENT TOURIST TAX TO BE USED FOR
COUNTYWIDE ADVERTISING AND BEACH
RENOURISHMENT; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, over 3.6 million tourists have visited Plnellas County this year with
Clearwater attracting 1.3 mUllon of that total; and
WHEREAS, those tourists visiting Clearwater have contrIbuted $670 million Into
Clearwater's economy, making tourism our largest Industry; and
WHEREAS, other counties in the State of Florida are competing for the tourist
dollar by spending millions in advertising in order to promote theIr communltles; and
WHEREAS, the our Pinellas County Tourist Development Council has reduced its
advertising budge4 now spending $1.6 million in promotional advertising as compared
to $2.7 million that was expended before to.x dollars were earrnan\ed for the Florida
Suneoast Dome; and
WHEREAS, projected figures tor 1988/89 call for an additional decrease in the
advertising budget of $1.3 milllon from the year before, due to the needs of the' .
stadIum; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. 'l1t'e City of Clearwater supports a one-cent tourIst with 50%
earmarked for countywide advertising and 50% to be spent for beach renourlshment.

Sectlon 2. 'This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
