A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FI~RIOA,
TO THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE, RECOMMENDING THAT
SECTIONS 101.121 AND 102.031, FLORIDA STATUTES,
BE AMENDED IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE MINIMUM
DISTANCES FROM POLLING PLACES FOR PERSONS IN-
trENDING TO SOLICIT VOTERS AND FOR PERSONS WHO
ARE NOT IN LINE TO VOTE.

WHEREAS, Section 101.121, Florida Statutes, provides that no
person who is not in line to vote may come within 50 fent of any
polling place; and
WHEREAS, Section 102.031, Florida Statutes, provides that persons
who intend to solicit voters within 100 feet of any polling place on
the day of any election shall notify tho supervisor of election~
at least three days prior to the day of th~ election; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater believes
that the minimum distances set forth in these statutory sections
are not great enough to prevent interference with the free conduct
of an election; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater also
believes that increasing the minimum distances will reduce the like-
lihood that polling places, which are already difficult to obtain,
will be lost as a result of soliciting voters at the polling
places;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
S~ction 1. The City Commission of the City of Clearwater urges
the ;Florida Legislature to consider and act favorably upon the
f.ollowing amendments:
'(a) To amend section 101.121, Florida Statutes, to increase,
from 50 feet to 200 feet, the minimum distance from any polling place
for persons who are. not in line to vote; and
(b) To amend Section 102.021, Florida statutes, to increase, from
100 feet to 300 feet, the distance from any polling place within whicll
any'~erson, political committee, committee of continuous existence,
,or other group or organization that intends to solicit voters must
notify the supervisor of elections in advance of the election day.

Section 2.
Upon the adoption of this'reaolution, copies hereof
shall be furnished to each member of the Pinellna County Legislative
D~legation, and to the presiding office;s of the Florida Senate and
House,of Representatives.
