A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF. CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
REQUES'rING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO REVmW AND
AMEND THE PROVISIONS OF FLOlUDA LAW REQUIRING THE
PUBLICATION OF NOTICES FOR CERTAIN AcrlONS BY LOCAL
aOVERNMEN'f SO THAT THE NOTICES MAY BE MORE
UNDERS'fANDABLE, LESS EXPENSIVE, AND MORE NEARLY
UNIFORM.
WHEREAS, various provisions or Florida. law (such as, but not necessarily limited
to, Sectlon 171.044(2), Florida Statutes, relating to voluntary annexation) require that
certain ordinances be publlshed In full as a prerequisite to the taking of certain actions
by 10c&1 government; and
WHEREAS, the ordinances required to be published in full Include lengthy metes
and bounds legal descriptions of real property which are not commonly understanda.ble
by the general publlc but which significantly increase the publlcation costs of the
ordinances; and
WHEREAS, various kinds of public notices are required to be published more than
once, but the requirements are not uniform and the multiple publication of lengthy
notices Is very expensIve with little or no Increase in public benefit;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
<?F THE CI'fY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Florida Legislature Is hereby requested to review and amend
those provisions of Florida. law requirIng the publlcation of ordinances in full and
requiring the publication of notices more than once as a condition precedent to the
taking of certain actions by local government, in order to make the notices more
understandable, less expensive, and more nearly uniform.
Section 2. Upon the adoption of this resolution, the City Clerk shall cause
copies to be delivered by mall to each member of the Pinellas County Legislative
Delegation, and to the Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
