WHEREAS, the City commission has established a Florida native plant
arboretum since 1982 at the Mocca.sin Lake Environmontal and Ellergy Education
Conter, and
WHEREAS, the a;:-boretum now consists of nearly three hundred living
plants on exhibit to the public, and
WHEREAS, a need exists to mo.intuin and enhance the growing collection of
living plants beyond the present capabilities of staff, and
MIERR~S, an herbarium consisting of 241 Rpecies of vascular plants
(non-living) has boen,donated to tho nature pnrk, nnd
WHEREAS, such herbarium is presently not available for exhibit to the
public, and
WHEREAS, the City owns and maintains additional properties co~taining
unique and diverse plant and animal life suitable for oducational purposes, and
MIEREAS, appropriate educational and int~rpretivc material needs to be
prepared and maintained to maximize the public benefits of th~ arboretum, he~barium,
and natural features, and
WHEREAS, the Institute of r-tUSCllIn provide!'! fill.1llclill ilrmistanco to
municipalities through the 1985 Conservation Project Support program, and
WIlEREAS, the City of Clearwater is eliyible for such assistance for the
nbove needs.
NOW, THEHEFORE, DE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF CLEARW1\TER, FLORIDA, IN SESSION DULY AND
REGULARLY 1\SSEMDLED, AS {-'OLLOWS:

1. That the City Commission authorizes the City Manager to apply

. for'financial assistAnco from the Institute of Museum Services and to provide for
i~illdsuppOtt and local matching funds where appropriate and feasible.
2. This Rosolution shall heco~e effective immediately upon 'its
adoption.
