SUMMARY: Dianne Burkhammer, Police Officer, Police Department, was employed by the City on January 31, 1983, and her pension service credit is effective on that date. Her pension will be effective February 1, 2003. Based on an average salary of approximately $48,176 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Ms. Burkhammer's selection of the 50� Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension will approximate S25,624 annually. Lawrence Browett, Fire lieutenant, Fire Department, was employed by the City on August 6, 1979, and his pension service credit is effective on that date. His pension will be effective February l, 2003. Based on an average salary of approximately S54,373 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Browett's selection of the 100°� Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension wiil approximate 534,519 annually. Belinda Massey, Administrcative Analyst, Gas Department, was employed by the City on June 25, 1973, and her pension service credit is effective on that date. Her pens(on will be effective July 1, 2003. Based on an averoge salary of approximately S38,872 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Ms. Massey's selection of the 100� Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension wiil approximate S31,538 annually. Section 2.393 (p) provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has completed twenty years of credited service in a type of employment described as "hazardous duty" and further specifically defines service as a Police Officer and Fire Lieutenant as meeting the hazardous duty criteria. Section 2,393 (p) also provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has reached age 55 and completed twenty years of credited service, has completed thirty years of credited service, or has reached age 65 and completed ten years of credited service. Ms. Burkhammer and Mr. Browett qualify under the hazardous duty criteria. SUMMARY: Brett Ward, Police Ofticer, Police Department, was employed by the City on September 30, 1985, Mr. Ward terminated from City employment on January 6, 2003. The Employees' Pension Plan provides that should an employee cease to be an employee of the City of Ciearwater affer compieting ten or more years of creditable service (pension participation), then such employee shall acquire a vested interest in the retirement benefits, Vested pension payments commence on the first of the month following the month in which the employee normally would have been eligible for retirement. Section 2,393 (p) provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has completed twenty years of credited service in a type of employment described as "hazardous duty" and further specifically defines service as a Police Officer as meeting the hazardous duty criteria. Section 2,393 also (p) provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has reached age 55 and completed twenty years of credited service, has completed 30 years of credited service, or has reached age 65 and compieted ten years of credited service. Mr. Ward would have completed twenty years of service on September 30, 2005. His pension will be effective October 1, 2005. This pension was approved by the Pension Advisory Committee on January 9, 2003.
