Geisel, Jr., Gas Department, and Donald A. Meerians, Engineering Department, be granted a regular pension under Section(s) 2.393 and 2.397 of the Employees' Pension Plan as approved by the Pension Advisory Committee. im and that the appropriate officials be authorized to execute same. BACKGROUND: John P. Geisel, Jr., Gas Service Supervisor, Gas Department, was employed by the City on October 2, 1967, and his pension service credit is effective that date, His pension will be effective on November 1, 1997. Based on an average salary of approximately $43,188 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Geisel's selection of the Life Annuity, this pension will approximate $39,863 annually. Donald A. Meerians, Assistant Traffic Engineer, Engineering Department, was employed by the City on July 3, 1978, and his pension service credit is effective on that date. His retirement will be effective on August 1, 1998. Based on an average salary of approximately $58,074 per year over the past five years, tho formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Meerians' selection of the Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension will approximate $31,945 annually. Mr. Gelsel's and Mr. Meerians' pensions were approved by the Pension Advisory Committee (PAC) on September 11, 1997. Section 2.393 (p) provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has reached age 55 and completed twenty years of credited service or has completed 30 years of credited service. Mr. Geisel qualifies under the 30 years of credited service criteria and Mr. Meerians qualifies under the age 55 and twenty years of service criteria. BACKGROUND: Terence C.Jennings, Chief Engineer, Engineering Department, was employed by the City on March 15, 1976, and his pension service credit is effective on that date. Mr. Jennings resigned from City employment effective November 3, 1997. As of his resignation in November, Mr. Jennings will have approximately 21 112 years of service and pension participation. The Employees' Pension Plan provides that should an employee cease to be an employee of the City of Clearwater after completing ten (10) or more years of creditable service (pension participation), then such employee shall acquire a vested interest in the retirement benefits. Vested pension payments commence at the time the employee normally would have been eligible for retirement. Mr. Jennings would have completed at least twenty (20) years of service and reached age 55 on June 26, 2005, His request to vest his pension was approved by the Pension Advisory Committee on September 11, 1997,. and will be effective July 1, 2005.
