BACKGROUND: Joseph Egger, Police Officer, Police Department, was employed by the City of Clearwater as a Police Officer from August 20, 1979, to May 1, 1992. At such time as he resigned from his employment, Mr. Egger formally requested to vest his pension. Such action was approved by the Pension Advisory Committee and the Pension Trustees. On April 29, 1996, he was reemployed by the City of Clearwater as a Police Officer. Upon the recommendation of the Legal Department and with a precedent set by another employee, Mr. Egger has requested that his previous vested pension right be waived. This request was approved by the Pension Advisory Committee on April 10, 1997. Upon approval of this request, Mr. Egger's previous period of employment will be added to his current period of employment and he will be eligible for retirement upon completion of twenty years of creditable service as a hazardous duty employee.
